Rally America joins members of the rally community across North America in mourning the passing of veteran rally driver and MaxAttack! promoter Jake Himes.

Himes, 34, of Duluth, Minn., and originally from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, passed away early this morning following a battle with cancer. A dedicated husband, father, and brother, Himes was also a fiercely competitive rally driver who nonetheless served as mentor and inspiration to countless members of the rally community.

A tireless ambassador for grassroots rallying, Himes was a driving force behind the creation of the MaxAttack! Triple Crown Rally Series, a three race "Triple Crown" of rallying for two-wheel-drive cars, consisting of three premier North American rally events. Himes was also one of the early leaders of "Group F,” which resulted in substantial changes to the Group 2 rules.

“Jake was a good friend, and the rally community will miss him,” said J.B. Niday, managing director of Rally America. “Rallying is a sport filled with characters, and Jake was unique among us.”

Jake is survived by his wife Danielle and children Lydia, Miles, Avery, and Mia.

“In the past 25 years, I've met and interacted with all sorts of race and rally drivers from Richard Petty to Travis Pastrana,” said Rally America Technical Director Mike Hurst. “The bravest man I have ever met is Jake Himes.”

Funeral arrangements for Himes are pending. Additional details and memorial information will be posted on www.rally-america.com as they become available.
