Clearly many over there don't understand what Group A rules entail..

You tell me: was there 5000 road going 2479cc road cars----ie the stroker crank at 92.8mm homologated?

I don't think so.
The link goes to a car built for Scottish Championship where they were not required to meet Group A rules

Is that a stock intake manifold?

Group A mandated stock intake and exhaust manifolds--and stock valve sizes too. Cam lift was only made "free' after 1 Jan 1986.

That shore as hell dudn't look stock to me..

I think nowdays, post rise of the Inter-net people think they can call anything "Group A".

That's kind of odd, since there is a lot of info on Group A Golfs there.

Another poster points out that "In the list of rally versions in the back it refers to the Group A rally 90s as having 190 bhp (from memory, I'll have to check when I get home).

Other sources suggest 197 Bhp."

...which is what would be expected from a naturally aspirated five built within the Group A limitations.

Now, the part that confuses me, is that I thought Audi pulled out of supporting stage rally long before 1990 when the first 20 valve 90s were produced. And I wasn't aware that they were made in large enough numbers to qualify for homologation, anyway.

Furthermore, later in the thread, there's a rebuild of a 90 which shows that it had a 10 valve engine with the appropriate scrody intake manifold just like my car's got (*) but the interesting thing is that they showed the A2/S1 style shifter rod... then the infamous linkaged shifter mounted IN the floor, then a cut-top 016 transmission. I'd thought that all B3-chassis Audis had 01A transmissions NOT the tougher 016. HMM

(*) Scrody but it's still probably the highest flowing manifold made for a 10-valve, and allegedly the highest flowing per-cylinder of any non-crossflow VW engine. I'd been planning on using one on my perpetually unfinished turbo engine but plans changed once again.

Bit of confusion here me thinks. Did you not notice the engine above is missing a cylinder!!
That pic only appears in the original post as MTK / Kolb were mentioned to be involved in the 5 cylinder 20v Grp A engine build, and were also involved in various other high end stuff and that pic of the engine in Gaëtan Hayot's Berg Cup Mk1 Golf is an example.

The car getting rebuilt in the thread later is not a 20v.

Jayzuz! And just looking the damn thing is installed wrong! It looks like its sideways! Hows a car 'spossed to work with the engine sideways?

grinning smiley

It may be mounted sideways in that car (Golf mk1), but the car is a bit special.
Thread here if anyone wants a read.

Maybe if you put it in the back so it's close to the drive wheels?
