Twins Aaron! Awesome and congrats! Nature's two for one!
Thanks, I've pretty much got my own service crew now, my wife already decided that the 3-year old is going to be the crew chief.

They're gonna keep me from making Idaho this year, fingers crossed that I'll be able to make it to Denise's UT event.

Wait, is there some other way to do "recce"? drinking smiley

In all seriousness, I plan to go down and volunteer and do what _I_ am able to make the event a success (without getting into the organizational side of things with Denise), and hope that worst case, she doesn't screw things up for us to put on another event down there in the future.

Rally Utah Update: We will be a independent event under the Southwest Rally Group LLC. We will use the spirit of Rally America competition and operation rules since we are very familiar with for all of these years.
Points paying as normal for the Bilstein Southwest Rally Cup Series presented by Lucas Oil
Rally America Inc. unfortunately will not add on any new events to their schedule that has new roads not previously been used since the cost of inspecting roads and the time schedule they can not provide.
So we want to show we have your support and that Rally Utah should be on the sanction body calendar and should have not been dropped.
Cedar City is so supportive along with their businesses and they are bending over backwards to have us. We just can not allow this event not to happen. There is a future here with this event and we will be providing first class stages to our competitors and our staff has been bending over backwards to making a really great routebook with a new rally navagator software we are using. It is really great and wish this was known before Desert Storm.
I have to thank tremendously the great strides that Pat McMahon, Dave Belcher and John Shults
They are doing a routebook that is given you for instance over 56 waypoints into the stage that graphics out the tulips for you and gives you the directions of that road. Each one will have a GPS coordinate to it. it is a really neat way of doing a route book. There will be blank areas bewteen the instructions for you to add any notes you like for your driver to hear.
So you can write your own stage notes for free!
What does that mean to you as us being a independent?
Exemption from License Rule is:
Well if you are a license holder then we just need to see your license either with NASA or Rally America or CARS or FIA. This will show us that you meet the requirements as being a driver or co-driver. This is open to all sanction body license holders.
If you are a non-license driver and/or co-driver with any of the sanction bodies then we would ask that you pay a adminstrative fee of $50.00's for us to do research of your previous racing background if you have done other racing with other motorsport disciplines OR you are a total novice then we need to discuss what you have as a car (Group 2, Open Light, B-Spec) are acceptable. If you are doing a turbo car then I will get the event steward and clerk of the course involved to determine if we can include you into the event for competition.
Entry Fee Schedule:
There is minor changes to the Entry Fee Schedule to meet the needs of the event insurance. We are working with another event to provide a group policy to keep the insurance rates down for us to pay.
Insurance:
I have learned alot about insurance for the past two weeks and they can be extremely high. This is all due to this motorsport is considered a High Risk sport so the underwriter is taking a risk to write policies for our sport.
You will still get a very good policy as compared to a sanction body policy. The insurance company has their own specialist if something should go awry. Our event run/loss reports are excellent.
Our Event Steward will be Tom Nelson who will be pre-event running of the roads as well as checking the rotuebook. You will be doing recce on Friday.
We will have EMT's and mid point EMT on one fo the stages. So most of you know us that we have been stewards nationally and regionally. So everything will be safe and will go on as if we were under a sanction body scrutineering.
There will be waivers and wristbands as normal that you have to sign along with your service crew.
Tech Inspection:
It will be provided by Doug Nagy or Pat McMahon as what we normally look after and you still be up to par and can be refused to compete if you are not up to the RA technical aspect of the vehicles rules. So make sure you have the padding correctly, no expired belts, etc. Or you will be told to go and be re-inspected if you do not have the correction. Any non grey area of corrections will be noted in your logbook.
Helmet Ruling: I will be discussing with the staff regarding this rule. If we say that it needs to be implemented. Then I will work on a helmet rental program to provide you a helmet that can be rented for the event.
If by chance we for any odd reason have to cancel then all monies paid will be refunded 100 percent. That is already on the Entry Fee Schedule and will be in the official supplementals.
Any questions do contact me through FB or denise @ southwest rally series.com.
Please do come out and show your support to this event. Let's show them that we all support rallies!!!!!
Thank you.

I can write my own notes for free? What a concept! eye rolling smiley

Accepting any license is nice, although the notion that having a license (at least RA or NASA) means you have any qualifications as a driver is good for a laugh.

Sure hope they institute a sane helmet rule.

Other than that? Meh. Truthfully if I was competing I wouldn't be too unhappy, since it would mean that I didn't have to buy two licenses to run the two closest events - would definitely be asking for details on the insurance coverage though.

That sounds like such a load. Isn't the internet made for gossip?

Ok..there is a backstory, but I'm not going into details as I'm not sure that is a proper thing to do.

I will say that RA is pretty much blameless in this one. More details than that need to be authorized by one of my sources.

When Forespring tried to put on the Wild West in Pomeroy the last time he tried the independent thing and the county balked at the lack of a sanctioning body. So he tried NRS. There were volunteer concerns , the event was canceled the previous year due to lack of workers. NRS politely declined for a couple reasons but the underlying was safety concerns and speeds to some degree. RA was then called, they said that either Hurst or myself had to go to Pomeroy, survey and approve the route and there were still some worker concerns. The survey expense was to be Forespring's to cover...he declined and the event died quietly.

So, there is precedent for the sanctioning body requiring a new event to jump thru some hoops so to speak. Denise hates NRS and disdains RA. She continually whines that RA doesn't support stand alone regionals and I think she expects to continually put on low turnout events and have someone else eat the loss. She has been claiming to want to go independent for well over a year now and raising hell in emails and private forums to do so. Perfect I say, don't let the door hit you in the back of the fire suit.
