was just wondering why I never see 3000 gt vr4 in rallys a lot of them have 4wd with twin turbo
the reason I ask is I see them sell for under 3000 dollars seems to be cheap for a 4wd turboed

Reliability, low roof line... not as cheap as you say for anything near decent condition. Many other better choices.

Under 3k? I think you're looking at the SL's. VR4's still fetch a decent amount of money.

Europeans ain't generally as fat as Americans.... thumbs up smiley hot smiley

And having been in a Stratos replica they are very small, uncomfortable and claustrophobic. Sardines in a tin have more room! Goodness knows how much worse that would be with USA spec cage, Hans device etc.
I reckon the only reason they were so fast was because the occupants drove the stages quick as fook so they could get out the car sooner and let the blood return to all the areas of their bodies before necrosis set in.
I can't see how they actually pass tech due to the minimum distance between the cage and helmet.

wikipedia
Curb weight 1,400–1,710 kilograms (3,090–3,770 lb)

Pretty sure the VR4 ended up on the high side of that figure.

Also, Stratos? Folks _have_ fit modern-ish cages in MR2s and Fieros, but I'd guess the Stratos might be even smaller. Current cage rules require a bit more than they did in the 70s.

Whole host of reasons already touched upon, but fundamentally isn't the engine too big anyways? 3.0L and turbo.

I'd also think the cheap ones were the non-turbo cars. They feel heavy and sluggish in street trim. I don't know that I've seen one in rally trim in the states.

They have been used in hill climb events successfully, but my buddy has two of them (CHERRY Stealth RT, and a Large Single turbo swapped VR-4) they are far from ideal. save the time and get a 2.5rs if you want AWD. much better platform, less fab, less work, and a much larger parts network. A VR-4 would be good (not great) on a tarmac stage rally, but would probably lose out too lighter cars. and stock they aren't all that fast anyway. just my 0.02

On the other hand, it doesn't meet the displacement limit... lol at least for Rally America sanctioned events. 2.0 litres or 2.5 if im not mistaken. I believe its 2.0....

I thought it was 2.6L so the subie guys could do an overbore after blowing up a motor. drinking smiley

If the OP is a mitsu perv as I am, good starter Evo's can now be found in the $5k range. Back in 2007 I bought 2 for about $15k, stripped and sold what I didn't need, and ended up just about $7k deep when it headed out for the roll cage....of course costs went up from there.

Theres a Gaylant VR-4 build right now... I have a friend who owns two of them... much better, but again an EVO is one of the best starting awd turbo cars out there. Everywhere English isn't a primary language, they rally evo's. better (not great) gearing then a Subaru, even if they don't sound as cool.

I had two GVR4s, a GSX Eclipse, a 2.5rs, and a GTX back in the early 2000s. The GSX actually got turned into a rally car by a buddy of mine and seating position was miserable. GVR-4 would be my pick for sure if you were doing an early DSM, but these days they're not usually all that cheap either for ones in suitable shape. I ended up building the GTX as my first rally/hillclimb car and it was fun, but very breakable. Also had a friend with a really clean GVR4 rally/hillclimb car and it was always overheating...but we didn't have to run restrictors at the hillclimbs, so suppose that might be a local issue.

You don't simply single turbo a vr4. My buddy did it. $3000 later...
