I'll be $6k in the hole when I'm done putting the Quantum together. I don't want to find out that I could have just bought an Evo.

No problemo, if your Quantum is nice, I will buy it from you :-)

Not after all the heartache smiling smiley

We're up to 82.5mm bore MC block, 7:1 compression, ported NG head with the GOOD valves that won't fall apart with exhaust temp, cut-down NG intake manifold, and I'm about this close to throwing a 55mm Precision turbo on the thing because I will have some headroom with the 52lb injectors and detonation should be no issue with the lack of compression.

Not a competition car of any type in the least, although I may take it to the dragstrip every now and then to make people wonder what the hell is with the funny-sounding "Volvo". If I had a goal, it would be a nice 80s style laggy turbo car that could put down 370hp at the wheels, because that's higher than any other ten-valve engine I've heard of in the US.

Are you serious?

That's sad. TONS of 350-380 hp 8v Volvos out there...

Ha! As the recent owner of a 302 powered Volvo, I can say that the handling is barely changed from stock. Can you tell there's a bit more weight up front? Yes. Does it really effect the cars handling? Not really.

He's talking pretty specifically about 10v audis. Not many people bother getting the 10vt motors up past 300. The 20v is available enough that its almost a wash to put together 350hp 10v vs 20v. Plus if you buy an s4 and part it out people actually want the parts. If you buy a 5k donor you practically have to pay to get rid of the shell.

Volvo was NOT nice enough to pair the engine with a stout all wheel drive drivetrain.

And yeah, it IS sad that people make more power with the four cylinder 8-valve VW engines than the five cylinder engine that is more or less the same engine with another cylinder stuck on the end, with a bottom end that is just about indestructible, but the realities are that once you get much past just turning up the boost a little, it's cheaper per horsepower to get a 20-valve engine since you'll be doing a lot of the same things regarding fueling and ignition and such but the 20 valve allows so much more breathing room tuning-wise and real estate-wise, so nobody in this country bothers.

I've heard of 700+hp 10-valve motors, but not here.
