UPS Sucks!
January 07, 2010 08:13AM
Picked up some used headlights for my rally car

The UPS store split the shipment up into two, doubled the cost on each shipment (multiplying the total cost by four) and then charged me duties, taxes and fees on the total amount.

The taxes, duties and fees are double what I paid for the part.

I phoned UPS and they told me that I could spend a couple of hours to get all the customs paperwork straightened out with the original shipper but they would charge me $20 for a re-evaluation fee!!

F'ing douchbags!

Never ever use UPS for international shipping. It's usually cheaper to fly there yourself.

The post office is usually the way to go, or use the "who's going to the next rally over the border" shipping service.

Wow, that lame, although on either the 22nd, or 23rd, I shipped a box to Gene, and it got to him the next night, with normal ground shipping. In the Christmas season. That's pretty impressive.

more like 80 but way down there is still in USA they say.

To James: NEVER ship UPS to Canada, whoever sent you whatever should have known that.
Post office is easiest, Fed-ex does GROUND to Canada, too.
That's how I've done with suspesnion and goodies.
Worked good except the one time some suspension going to Calgary sat in customs for 21 days.

Well, I only found it shocking because us mail takes a couple days to even go from bothell to my house, which is like 5 miles.

I told him to use USPS but he probably truncated it to UPS!

I did get to tell the UPS complaint lady that they charged too much, screwed me over and I didn't enjoy it one bit ... making her and her company lousy prostitutes. She hung up winking smiley

Well we ordered a tire Sunday evening online from Motorcycle Superstore in Oregon and it was here Tuesday mornimg..UPS.

A couple years ago ACP had some dog gears shipped to my business from England by FedEx. 3 months later FedEx bills my shop for $60 or so for Customs charges. My only connection was the shipping addy.

NEVER go into a 'UPS Store' to ship anything....they take UPS rates and then add the 'stores' charges.

even if you ship something UPS once a year, go online and open an account (its free). then you can put in your own shipping dimensions/weight, get a decent rate, and print out your own label.

If you ship out more than 1-2 things a month, you can get what they call 'daily shipper' rates, which are actually pretty good, imo.

always insure everything.

Lesson learned

Next time spell it out "United States Postal Service"

The delivery is almost the same as UPS and they only charge $5 for customs charges

I had a $1500 suspension shipped from the US by the USPS and they charged me $5 for brokerage - versus who knows what from UPS.

Got a can of paint today - $15 of brokerage charges on $25 of paint.

I guess some companies like these guys?

UPS drivers around here are all $60k or more a year. I'd guess wages are higher in the big city. UPS hasta pay for those air planes and dumassed shorts...not to mention the NASCAR sponsorship.

USPS is actually a pretty decent shipper.

I've had massive issues with truck freight though. Tacoma Motor something or other..terrible service. A couple others I can't remember. Taking a week to get a motor from Seattle is a bit much.

Gene, we use to use OAK Harbor freight, might give them a call. If I remember they will give you price and time on the phone, and lift gate, might be worth a call.

As always IMHO
