Speaking of nerds, I tried one of those on-line MMORPGs (Civony) and played it in character. My guy used the third person to refer to himself and was roughly modeled on Dave Sim's Cerebus. It seemed to confuse the heck out of most people when I did this. They kept asking me who Lord Furr was when I would say things like "Lord Furr is thinking your city is pretty and is planning to take it." They'd be freaking out, begging me to tell them who Lord Furr was, even as my army was attacking.
In the end, I decided that most PMs and direct public questions would be answered by Lord Furr's secretary, Cyndi, instead of Lord Furr. That actually caused even more confusion, which I greatly enjoyed, especially when my faction neared the top of the rankings. Then I decided that Lord Furr had died (of syphilis, if you really need to know) and only Cyndi was available to answer questions. I renamed one of my cities "Furry Tomb," but soon after this quit when the gold-diggers from Guanzhou started doing things to make people pay to play. |
Holy shit! Now I know where Chuck Lorre got the idea for Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, and Raj. |
I must admit that I had to google that. I've never seen that show, but have been told that I'd like it and would get many of the odd references. But if you've never read any of Dave Sim's stuff -- especially Cerebus -- then let me return the favor by strongly suggesting it. Don't let the first book or two stop you. Keep going at least until you meet Oscar Wilde.

That would fit right inline with psychology, the field of inventing things to fit your current belief. ![]() You ever watched the show Bones? It always cracked me up how she talked about psychology. I have had to battle more fake and bad science "beliefs" that have made it mainstream due to hack ass child/infant psychologists than pretty much anything else. It cracks me up how the same group that questions the real science behind most vaccines is also the same group that blindly follow the shit backed by the fake science of psychology. Example: Infant crawling and reading skills later in life. Grant Hughes |

I'm sure it's frustrating!
I've found people to be the most frustrating part of science. And hand waving. I hate hand waving. I'm focused mostly in analytics for metabolomics and the study of small molecules and the amount of hand waving in some of the literature is astounding. I feel for real psychologists. For every one with a strong grasp of scientific method and causation/correlation there are at least five idiots basically making shit up and presenting it as fact to increase their blog readership...
