Rally Car:
volvo 242

ooh, snap! that hurts
January 24, 2008 07:26PM
I have been doing my best to educate my 5 year old daughter about the rally, and she's pretty into it, the highlight being her having a great attitude about standing out in the rain all day at the Olympus last year and cheering for the cars with pretty colors. She even brings me snacks when I'm out banging away on the volvo rallycar-to-be.

But, the other day we are getting out of the car and she points to a yellow WRX with the big wing in the parking lot and say "look dad, A REAL rallycar!"

A quick backhand cuff across her chops should be enough to quite the girl down, but don't show anger, let her know you love her and are doing it for her own good.

It happened to me too. I've raced formula cars my entire life (rally just recently), I've told my sons over and over that real race cars don't have doors and my youngest son recently revealed that his goal in life is to be a NASCAR driver. I was floored, where in hell did that come from, we don't even watch it! My wife consoled me by saying it IS the only place a driver actually makes a living in the USA.

Obviously he should widen his horisons.
I left for racing in Europe the first time when I was still 17 in 1970, went back for a full season when I was 19.
Raced full time paid pretty good in 1977 and 1979.
