That's crazy. I can understand protecting the image of the brand.

But destroying 4,000 most likely perfectly fine cars.. is obscene.

Another fucking ingenious way to waste national resources (not US but still national resources). In exchange new Mazda prices will hike up, Mazda will lay off a shit load of employees in he US due to lack of sales, their big brother partner Ford will take a hit, they will lay off a few thousand workers, those who get laid off will be eligible for 80% of their income through unemployment, the working fools who are busting their asses will pay for the 80% indirectly, consequently a few thousand people who were making it pay check to pay check will go 30-60-90 days late on their bills which will create another ripple in the already fucked up economy, some people who try to save from their living expenses to rally will not have the disposable income to do so, they will buy piece of shit suspension parts instead of Super Bitching JVFAB Suspenders, some will cancel the orders they have placed, that will piss off JVL who will go on another tangent and will piss off more RA people (as if he cares how many he pisses off), in the heat of the arguments he will misplace a boobookitty and forget to turn off the stove, his tea will overbrew and we'll have Apocalypse.

How's that for a Doomsday Theory ???

And I ain't kidding about the economy stuff.

I can remember back when I first joined the SCCA, there was a midwest SSC driver who was "loaned" a 2nd gen RX-7. The story goes that the car was dropped from the ship and Mazda felt it couldn't be sold but with the understanding it never see a public road, it could be raced. I guess Mazda decided it wasn't worth the hassle.

So, what was it I saw in Otterweek recently, the energy use of a car goes something like this -- 5% for assembly, 80% fuel, oil, etc. for the life of the car and 5% disassembly.

Talk about a waste of resources...I would have been all over a cheap salvage title 3 wagon I could run for 150k miles.

Or a spec 3 Euro-rallycross cup!

They're in Portland, so I say whoever makes it to Oregon Trail needs to mob up for a mass car-jacking.

Blame the lawyers, the courts, and the people that take advantage of the legal system by suing companies for nothing.

Mazda/Ford is covering their ass. It sucks, but it's reality.

SCCA covered their ass by dumping rally. Was it SCCA's fault? NO!!! It was the stupidity of individuals (spectators, drivers, organizers, etc) that lead to inevitable deaths. There was nothing surprising about it. Anyone who was surprised had their heads in the sand.

One of the airlines, is it Southwest, is currently being sued by some slimeball for damages NOT incurred by thier reported maintainence issues. That's right, they're being sued even though no damage has even been claimed by the plaintiff. In this climate, by and for the lawyers, Mazda has no choice. In a decent world, they could sell these cars at a discount with a clause in the contract where the buyer states that he knows that the car is recovered salvage, but they can't in this world. Shit, some bastard'll prolly sue 'em anyway, for damages that *could have* happened...

Well, I think I'll sue Mazda for the willful explosion of airbags and all the potentially toxic contents of the propellants!

Maybe we should regroup and sue them for the lost of possible cheap rally cars?

And then we can pretend we would have made a new championship for them and sue them again for the lack of potential revenues from that championship and even sue them for the possible damages that someone could potentially have suffered if the championship would have occured?
