Welding jobs in PNW?
December 16, 2008 05:52PM
Just heard from a good friend of mine in the Portland area that he got laid off from a sweet gig where he was welding some precision pieces for the aircraft industry or something. He's a Wyotech graduate who's been welding for years and does some really fine work. I know times are tough all over, but if anyone had any leads for a long time friend of mine, I'd appreciate it greatly.

If it helps any, I'm pretty sure he got out to see Doo Wops and is now hooked on rally. smiling smiley

Thanks, fellas.

He may want to try boat-yards. I have a friend who's a welder for a boat company in Bellingham and he gets paid a decent wage.

BOEING may be the obvious PNW employer for your friend.

(He'd probably hafta move to the Everett, WA area. It's beautiful north and/or east of there.)

Ha! Good one, John. But, the fellow looking for a job is from Portland fer chrisake (heroin capital of the western states), so he alrady knows vot eetz like to dodge a yunkie hon hevery corner ven hee eez hon heez vay to de Pub.

Seriously though, there are some really nice areas that are still pretty inexpensive within commuting distance to Boeing, Everett. I like it up there.

You know john, the same thing could be said about pretty much any area south of seattle too...just with less meth tweakers and more gang violence and shootings

Wow. This turned epic!

Reminds me of some parts of Phoenix. I don't have wide enough tires or mirrory-enough tint to roll that part of town after dark. winking smiley

Oh, give me a break, my shop is in Kent just south of Tukwila. There's hardly ever any shootings down here. Hardly ever. Of course, Gary Ridgway used to dump his dead hookers just on the other side of the river from my shop...

exoticmetals.com is usually hiring someone,
closer to kent. SE seattle. across from John.

can't help on the Portland area, though I know they do casting, racecars, airplanes, and semi trucks down there.

Jason is right about boat yards, though the one he mentions is staying in business through govt contracts more than selling the "HUMMER of Boats"

Raise your hand if you want one of those right now.

I have a friend who is a welder and she's been having a hard time, enough in fact that she's started working nights because those are the jobs available. She's ironworkers union though, not a regular gig at a company.
