Nails in Tires - too many times?
May 02, 2009 06:01PM
My wife and I have had eight nails in our tires over the last four years - including two in the sidewall (requiring the tire to be changed)

Too many? About right? Sabotage?

When people would come in with a flat tire due to a nail I'd tell them, "This nail is leaking, I'll put in a new one." No one ever thought it was as funny as I did.

I'd say it's high. But you may just be driving in an are more prone to nails on the road. For example my dad kept dropping nails in the alley when he was repairing pallets causing my mother to have an abnormal amount of nails in her tires.

Seems like a lot to me. I don't think we've had even one nail in the last 4 years.

8 nails definately seems like alot !

The one I usually get are drywall screws, then again I'm generally spending a fair bit of time in the vicinty of developments, leasehold improvements, etc... where drywall screws are pretty common.

I've had 2 flats in 6 years.

You know, you should really stop getting into car chases with construction workers. They'll pull a James Bond on you and throw a box or two of nails out the window just so they can lose you.smiling smiley

When I had my 02 Tacoma TRD 4X4 I had ALOT of flats. One day I had two - One on a forest access road, and the other on a highway. I was getting flats all the time, and decided to change the stock tires to see if the problem would dissapear.

The truck came with the the BF Goodrich tires below and I changed the tires for the Perilli's. The Pirelli's firmed up the ride, handled better both or dirt as well as pavement and the flats stopped.

Perhaps it was just a fluke ?

for the record, in my nine or so years of driving i have never gotten a flat due to something other than ditch hooking, hitting snowbanks...
