Boy, did I learn a lot! I'm really looking forward to getting started building my Galant into a rally car now. We spent some time in the garage discussing this and that on his car(s) it was possibly the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Dings, dents, and likely the demise of a number of rattle cans, the car looked awesome.
I've always taken a lot of shit from people on my DSM forum, 2GNT, for preferring form over function, but those fools are spending $500+ for things like FMICs, flashy seats, or catback exhausts, and even more on flashy wheels and tires. Here's Mustafa telling me, "Fuck all that shit." I'd rather race the car than make it look like a race car on the street. A-fucking-men, brother. I wasn't in the door a minute before I was offered quality beer and a seat. In less than two hours' time, I feel like I have two mentors willing to help me get the engine installed (in less than an hour, at that!), build the chassis for the best value in safety and performance, and even train my girlfriend at co-driving! This is kick ass. I thought I would share. If this is the way it feels to be a part of the rally community even years later (and judging by Mustafa's enthusiasm after 25 years, it is), then I've finally found the right place to be. Just thought I would share my excitement. Thanks, fellas. Looking forward to the first time I'm able to help a no0b out like this, myself. These are very exciting times, indeed. Welcome aboard.
Some of us have been doing just what you saw for more than 20 years in rally and 15 years in moto-cross before, and Mustafa knows, just like I do that that's the only way people get into the sport and stay. Now listen to Mustafa well but be direct and ask him about the various blow ups and precicely why thing went wrong the various times. He's a man, he will tell you just where rushing things and fixating on getting to a specific event cost him dearly. In other words, build it GOOD, the world won't end if you're not in the woods immediately, better to be in with a solid motor and car so you probable beginner mistakes driving won't result in catastrophes. Carve into a big stone "A good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow", and have that above your work area. Hah! I'm fully taking you up on your offer to help install this thing, therefor, you will certainly be seeing it before install. It's not a total hack-job. I mean, sure, it's got 200,000 miles on it and has been on fire before, but I did buy some new parts - I've got a new turbo oil drain gasket! I bought this from a friend who said it was still a good engine. I've known this guy for years and have no doubts about his claim. (But I appreciate where you're coming from.) No more hindsight. I hear ya. Feel like a trip to the north side? 15 minutes by 51>101. South on 19th Ave to Utopia (first light after underpass). West on Utopia to end of park, south on 21st AVE (not drive) and you'll spot the Gaylant up on stands about a block down on your left. I'm riding shotgun in the carpool lane this week, so I won't be home until after 630pm, but let me know what night works for you to take a look-see at my clusterfuck and I'll buy the beer. :thumbsup Brian Driggs | KG7KCA | PHX, AZ | 89 Pajero alterius non sit qui suus esse potest |

Duuuude you don't even know.
I have yet another appointment with that asshole tomorow and I'll read him the riot act and tell him how the cow eats the cabbage. I don't even think he knows wtf is wrong yet. BTW, last night on the way home I saw a sign on Curry, west of Rural that said "Oriental Accupressure Massage", the blinking neon sign that said OPEN should have been a warning sigh. I walk in, it's like a foyer, 10 by 20, there is a small window with a button on the wall, I ring, some pink halter clad oriental bimbo with way too much makeup comes to the window, I say "I need a massage" she says "No time now, I'm working alone and I have 2 clients here now, combe back in 3 hours", I look at my watch it's 7:30PM I inquire "How long do you work till", she says "3 AM", then I notice the little sign on the window that reads "VIP Massage $95". I bid her adieu and limped back to my van. I guess the massage she was referring to was slightly different than the one I had in mind, and that alone is a shocker, usually I have my mind in the gutter.
