Just wanted to introduce myself. Most of you rally guys will call me the wussy, but I'm in to road racing (pavement style!) my 1985 XR4Ti. Not many around here do it, and I really respect the technology and beating you guys put on your cars so I'm hoping to learn a bit. Perhaps I can even contribute here and there. Teach you guys how to drive when you have grip ;-).

John V sent me over here so hopefully I don't get banned from the get-go.

Take care,

Peter

I remember digging through your site a while back, I for one think it looks like a hoot!

Perhaps to make reparations for your love of limp-wristed sealed surfaces, you should hit the interstate and drag some rust free xr's up to Canada...(they do not exist here, so nobody will make a fluffer track car until they arrive) tongue sticking out smiley

You're not doing autocross so you're not too limp wristed. You actually get to drive your race car more than one to four times a year in anger.

I plan to do as many track days as I can in my rally car when it is done.

In fact, I've considered having two sets of suspension.

I've considered following your lead in alternator relocation before. Looks like a good solution that doesn't require waiting for custom parts or scouring junkyards trying to find a 92 Ranger 2.3L truck.

Where's the video of your car. Just make sure it gets a little sideways. smiling smiley

Oh, and the only person who can kick you off is slightly MIA.

Welcome to the asylum.

Why the hell would we kick you out, just because you are confined in a track doesn't mean you are a bad person. I heard there is a therapy for people like you but as always first step of the therapy is admitting that you have a problem.

Didn't that dinosaur JVL tell you that we actually rally on tarmac aswell ?

Track days don't allow too much bumpin'...dammit I need to get my street XR together and go out to the annual Glen gathering sometime.

Yeah, he did mention Taramac rallies, specifically somewhere in NC. I'm going to look up the NASA SE region and see what they're in to.

I also offered to get JVL on track at Watkins but he changed the subject quickly... ;-).

No bumpin on these. They'll DQ you quick if you bump at a driving event. Now, in a race, the occassional contact is expected....

We're going to do the 24 Hours de Lemons this year. We were all stoked for it even though it was in California, until we found that it fell on one of our core members' wedding. NFG, bumming, "wait till next year", etc.

Then they tell us, oh hey yeah we're goign to have two more events. The one we will do is in MI.

The rules are, basically, you can spend up to $500 to buy and prep a car for the 24 hour event. Rollcage and safety equipment mandatory, don't count towards the $500. Tires and brakes count as safety equipment, but tires must have treadwear rating of at least 190.

Bumping and grinding and whamming is part of the picture, although if you get a reputation for nerfing a lot, they install the Grille of Damocles on your car - a spike welded to the bumper, so that if you nerf someone, your radiator gets punctured.

It's a really, really laid back event, and we are figuring that between entry and prep, we will be in it for only $6000 per team. We hope to run two teams.
That way, if one of our cars is the one that randomly gets picked at the halfway mark for summary execution, we'll still be in the running.
