Driving around the world...

So many of you know that my good friends and former driver Brian Moody, Erika Lucero, and their dog Dremel are attempting to drive around the world in a Nissan Pathfinder. Anyhow, I just watched the Motorcycle Diaries and it made me wonder how they were doing so went and read some of their more recent posts from Peru. Good stuff.

i would love to be able to do something like that some day with my wife.

Buy a cool house in a ghetto but up and coming neighborhood. Live in it for 3-4 years making improvements on it the whole time. Sell it for much more than you paid for it.
Sell almost everything you own.
Go.

That was what they did. I think they budgeted around $40K for the trip and have around the same amount as backup.

that is definitely a cool picture. Though if I had to drive around the world in a car/truck I think I'd go crazier then I already am. Much rather do it on 2 wheels...of the non pedaling variety.

George Bush...the one man who makes me think my toaster is pretty smart.

They ran into problems in Patagonia. Dangerous civil wars in Africa, trouble getting the dog onto the boat, could have skipped Africa and went straight to Europe but then would have ended up in Siberia in the dead of winter. Ended up calling it good, spending a few extra weeks in Buenos Aires, sold the truck and all the gear and came back to Denver last week. They drove 20,000 miles in six months though and explored nearly all of Central and South America.
