Does anyone have the hookup in Potsdam, NY by any chance?

Basically, I'm young and broke and need money. I will work 48 hrs a week (most I can legally work in the summer) minimum wage, I won't complain. I have a work permit AND a driver's license. I tried to apply to a bunch of places, but most aren't hiring until the fall, when college is in season. The money WILL be used to pay for rallying some point next year. So if you know someone who is in need of help in the Potsdam, NY area, help a brotha out!

In the NY nanny state you need one to work under 18. I'm 16.

Tried dairy queen or landscape companies. Walk in, ask if they are hiring. Lifeguard was my favorite summer job, but too late probably for that.

Landscape companies only hire undocumented workers or ex-felons in the WHOLE NE.
Plenty of both in the NE, indeed between those 2 sectors that's probably the majority of the male population.

I offered a bunch of people $20 to mow my lawn a couple years ago, when I was in fact too busy to mow it myself. Even my unemployed friend passed that by and we have a small yard.
Start going to the farmer's market and asking the farmers if they are hiring on the farm at all.
Newspaper delivery sucks but you can earn some dough that way.
Start going around to the small independent auto shops and ask if they have any work. Cleaning, etc. I know one friend that got started in car biz by just going to a shop, made friends with owners, did odd jobs when they had them at the shop (aka shit they didn't want to do). When it came time that they needed another person, guess where they went. He owns 1/3rd of it now.

Plus Juan the landscape trades this time of year...

Pretty much show up at a tree care company with a pair of workboots, and they will put you to work... you'll make more then minimum. Make sure you get some instruction before you put anything in the chipper and keep you eyes up.

Thats how I started in high school. Actually I had to ask for my first scheduled day of work off because I was competing in my first TSD rally. Luckily the TSD was being put on by the head mechanic at the shop so that was Ok.

The best place to start is with something you enjoy doing. Second best is something you can learn from. If you find either the money is less important. Good luck!

One of the many benefits of living in a small college town in upstate NY is that since the population nearly triples when the college kids come to town, getting a job in the summer at somewhere like dairy queen is near impossible, aside from the fact that we don't even have a DQ here that I know of. Never thought about landscaping.

There is always a way to turn a buck think outside the box. After hours cleaning services have kept several of my freinds afloat through college.
