Yamaha 4 stoke id...
June 09, 2013 03:10PM
Hey...

I bought this um, over 20 years ago... it's in my parents barn. Was for a flat-track project that was never finished.

I think it's a 400cc, but that's as close as I know. Any thoughts on what it is?

Going to post it for pick up (free, or cheap) but would like to at least be able to say what it is...

Cheers.

Most definitely an XS650 yamaha twin. The 400s had a different head and case design. I've never ridden a flat track bike with a twin, but I've seen a lot of guys use those motors. They sound great with straight pipes smiling smiley

I agree. Maybe I can find a photo of a VERY hung over me on some Swede's sidecar rig at their 1st International event, my 10th or 12th.....powered by a waaaay bad ass version, likle bored, stroked, BAAAAAaaaaD...

Look around the lower part of the cylinders, usually theres a cast in thang saying the actual capacity liler "648ccm"

And reliable as hell.

The XS650 is very currently a hot bike for the café crowd and custom bobber builders. Might be worth a bit more than scrap so should be easy to give away.

Or sell for a million dollars to the hipster crowd.

Yeah, but my parents live in the sticks, long way from hipsters.

If it doesn't move, maybe I'll find a frame... They (parents) sent the flat track frame to the dump... Farm is selling, and barn needs cleaning out. Motor was too heavy for my dad to lift, that's what saved it. I forgot it was there!

I will be back again, so maybe I'll pick it up. I've always dreamed of killing myself on a cool hipster-esq cafe machine.

Thanks!

Don't we all.

Sadly, there are a dearth of cafe' bikes and too many Mangles in this world; so many of us shuffle-off the mortal coil in such ignomious ways....
