I think this needs to be posted here (yeah, I know the German derivative stuff is purported to be bogus, but it's still fucking funny):

"Perhaps one of the most interesting words in the English language today, is the word fuck. Out of all the English words that begin with the letter 'f' ...fuck is the only word referred to as 'the f word... It's the one magical word. Just by its sound can describe pain, pleasure, hate and love. Fuck, as most words in the English language is derived from German ...the word fuieken, which means to strike.

In English, fuck falls into many grammatical categories:

As a transitive verb for instance.. John fucked Shirley.
As an intransitive verb... Shirley fucks.

Its meaning is not always sexual, it can be used as...

An adjective such as... John's doing all the fucking work.
As part of an adverb... Shirley talks too fucking much.
As an adverb enhancing an adjective... Shirley is fucking beautiful.
As a noun... I don't give a fuck.
As part of a word... absofuckinglutely -or- infuckingcredible.
And as almost every word in a sentence... Fuck the fucking fuckers.

As you must realize, there aren't too many words with the versatility of fuck...such as these examples describing situations such as:

Fraud: I got fucked at the used car lot.
Dismay: ahhh fuck it.
Trouble: I guess I'm really fucked now.
Aggression: Don't fuck with me buddy.
Difficulty: I don't understand this fucking question.
Inquiry: Who the fuck was that?
Dissatisfaction: I don't like what the fuck is going on here.
Incompetence: He's a fuck-off.
Dismissal: Why don't you go outside and play hide and go fuck yourself...

I'm sure you can think of many more examples.

With all these multi-purpose applications, how can anyone be offended when you use the word. We say use this unique, flexible word more often in your daily speech.

It will identify the quality of your character immediately.

Say it loudly and proudly: FUCK YOU!"

People who say "Who cares?" generally fail to understand that a person who is in no position to acquire something can still be otherwise interested by said thing. In fact, the person could EVEN be SO interested in this thing that they cannot acquire that they would like to study it and its potential implications on whatever it's used for.

Here are some examples;

Carbon brake rotors

WRC suspension set ups

International Space Station experiments

F1 technology

Space technology in general

Military weaponry

Exotic cars

Actresses/Actors/Models

In a more obscure, less tangible area, socioeconomic class structuring

Languages

Religion

People discuss things they WANT to talk about. "Who cares?" IS the right answer. They obviously do. Let them talk about it. It's not anyone else's job to babysit them and tell them what they should and shouldn't think about.

Who cares that you don't think it's important?

And in my experience, albeit somewhat limited, this interest is usually in the realm of people who don't DO. We need less thinkers and more do-ers.

And if it makes anyone feel any better. I say "who cares" direct to my friend's regularly. I also try to tell them things like they don't need superchargers or to worry about every little detail. Just get out there and rally, the rest will resolve itself.

I agree.

You have people in John's position, he's got a family, parts to churn out, bills to pay, etc, maybe time and or money is a problem for him. Then you have people in my position, where money is an issue, and then you have people who just are afraid to fail and wont try. Or you have people who have all the money to do whatever it is, they just don't have time. Furthermore, you have the people who have both the time and money to do the activity, however, they have no desire to actually do it. They just like being a spectator and seeing how the multiple parts come together to form the whole that is X (rally, f1, space travel, socioeconomic whatever, things). These people have an interest in the subject, but don't actually want to partake (myself and religion, for example - I like discussing them, but I have no desire to actually consider myself any faith, atheist, or agnostic.)

The funny thing is, at the end of the day, this entire thread is the epitome of "who cares?" It's more worthless than asking about the center diff on a wrc car, or the inner workings of an f1 suspension. Those things are actually tangible. They can be proven, or disproven. There ARE conclusions to be made.

The realm of "who cares" is completely pointless. People with either care, not care, or be indifferent. Discussing why someone doesn't care doesn't accomplish anything. This thread will likely never reach a resolution. It will fade into the forum and probably never get bumped back to the front pages. The same people who care about wrc center diffs and how if you read out loud you can understand Finnish will want to talk about expensive drive trains and languages in a week. IT's not going to change. The same people will be saying "who cares?" to the same kind of threads as they pop up.

Everyone knows this is a "club level" rally forum. But just because it focuses on club level rallying, where you don't NEED a bunch of fancy stuff doesn't mean people won't want to talk about it.

Anyhow, that's my contribution for awhile, back to college work.

Pretty sure you're not that PC in person. smileys with beer That said, I'm sure we deserve it some (ok most) of the time. Might just be about time to break out that mirror...
