Mud slinging will save rally.

Lord knows this thread has enough of it. Knock it off you guys. There's plenty of room for that in some other thread. Start one if you need it.

Because, obviously, this isn't a point proving thread. This is about saving rally. winking smiley

There were so many good ideas born of this thread rally has already been saved.

New way to save rally:

New driver school will include reading "Oh the places you'll go". As I read it last night, I found that many parts perfectly explained rally.

Anders, You should have included a rally based picture. Looks slightly less impressive.

I have no idea who this person is but I am confident that this type of interaction on the internet in rally discussions is not saving rally in any way. I know let's make sure to belittle new people to the rally community when they have ideas. Who the hell is jayn_j on SS. Sounds like a total Ass.

Wow, what a great idea. Why don't you go ahead and organize that? They got lots of great twisty dirt roads there in W.Va. You could even add a requirement that all contestants must carry 20 mason jars of moonshine in the back and get assessed penalty points for each one that is broken during the event. And then when someone rolls off the road and gets crushed by lack of cage, they got the shine to drink so they don't give a shit that nobody finds their body. :facepalm

I think that is because Tdrrally is an advocate for unsanctioned, full-speed events on open public roads. Not TSD as we know it.

I believe he is the same as this guy who has been asked several times to quit playing cutsie and be a man and put his full name and location up...and in fact just asked again today---here its "captdownshift' there jayn-j and I believe its Dave Zajano from somewhere up in the Maryland side of DC.
Must be strange to be so afraid of having your words online linked to your name that you have play silly games.

Yeah great response..
I believe what he was suggesting grew out of a thing I have posted several times about the very first car thing I did which was a simple route book format "Monte Carlo" rally at Wild West 1984. The main deal was Wild West Divisional---they had I think about 40-43 cars and did 2 loops of the old Capitol Forest stages for a SS total of about 110 miles.....The Monte carlo thing we did one loop or 55 miles of "Regularity" sections---wjhat was the SS for the real guys, and a total of around 120 transit miles which were called "Monte Carlo" sections...

23 cars. $55 entry.. On the "SS" or regularita there was an average speed to shoot for...
Roads were still basically closed..the average was "just out of reach" so everybody was late to a greater or lesser degree, winner was who was "least late"...

Loads of fun, brilliant idea..

Absolutely no reason it cannot be done today---we are no more litigious now than then.
We are by and large bigger whiners and pussies and the intra web gives voice to a lotta Negative-Nellie fraidy cats but no reason this can't be done and it was a remarkably effective recruitment tool---about 15 of those 23 guys went on to get into stage rally.
