Doug Robinson was the tech guy and Tony Chavez was his driver in Tony's ex-Guy Light built VW. Correct, John?

And people say I write cryptically! You only left out Paul Truess and his brothers who did the welding and stiching.. Tony was pissed than hell that I wrote "better get ready for Gp2...it's more anyway!" and sent a really nasty PM at SchutzStaffel.com calliing me lots of names, but shorter than the epic l;enght swearing and threats from the repugnant-in-PM but oh so cheerful online Robinson, and wrote what a proiblem "I've created by opening my big mouth". I wrote Tony and said If you accuse somebody it is only fair you at least look at what they said and then pointed out that it was he himself when asked which VW Golf it was who mentioned "the one Guy Light stitch welded way back", and all I did was ask if he understood that he had just blurted out that that car---now HIS car was illegal...and I pointed out that if he paid any attention that I had referred numerous times to Tony as an example of what I simple. solid correct car could do (Tony ran a Misterbitchy Galant, nothing trick, just a solid car and did quite well without being crazy---something I still push). He wrote back and apologized and i said no problemo, us Latinos got these crazy temperments and we blow up sometimes that's OK, but the SCCA Tech guy Robinson, what a slime ball. His public response was to the affect of "Thank you for your inquires on the eligibility of our car. We will be making inquires of the relevant authorities regarding this matter..." Who was SCCA National Tech head honcho? Who would he be asking? Himself of course.. So in clear violation of the rules they entered a bunch of Nationals and when they did that I asked how that was possible that they know with certainty that their car was illegal in class....and that drew more threats of violence if I ever went to SoCal..... So cheating in P class is OK if you just brazen it it out.... A buddy and similar personality to Robinson is the guy quoted in the "Read This First" thing nobody ever reads when they sign up here... That jewel, career P class guy, admitted over there "We always stitch welded P class cars as far back as" he could remember.. Shamelessly admitting all his results from way back to current were intentionally done with illegal prep and the only conclusdion to draw was all results should be nullified. Later that year Jen's favorite rally Saviour , the horribly ironically misnamed ,, der Spitzner'' issued a "retroactive rule change making stitch welding P cars legal. It does bring to focus a question of what to do when officials --volunteers that they may be---go bad....?? That Canajian thread here with the flat stupid decisions and as everybody can see, they are just digging their heels in on something it is a crying shame they took three years to come up with engine rules they admit that have no technical experience of competence in, and that they just made up themselves...why should dozens of people spend thousands of dollars for soemthing that is obviously a stupid conclusion defended on the most immature grounds? It really took them 3 years to make up some dumb rules fixing problems that don't exist? Seems that they could have made up rules ignoring Open 4wd in a lot less time... To bring this thread back from its couple week hiatus...
I'm willing to bet that Canadian rallying will be saved at the CARS AGM, and John is going to need a new spleen after it implodes from what happens there. Is there anybody that is in close enough proximity to John to take video? |

What do you think is likely to happen there? You think the pompous "Oafish-als" can ignore the outpourings of pissed people:

That thread is still kickin' huh. Good to hear. I quit attending to it once it started becoming a bit of the usual John vs. Keith shit show. Plus I'd said my bit AND made it known to people and Tall Pines that I was not advertising in the spectator guide due to the exclusion of most of the rally cars our shop has at it and encourages people to build.

Magic eightball sayz Keith for prez 2013. He'll get the costs to compete in Canada up to RA costs in no time! Rallying will be saved with instant stage/split times and dubious safety systems that make the people who spend no money on this sport happy. |

Noticed that fine point I see. "It'll be great for spectators and crews and TV (to have instant real time tracking), so you pay an extra 100-300 buck so THEY can enjoy you rallying" Moronic. Any idea what per event or per car costs are on the Rally Safe system? A local computer scientist guy was working on a system for a while.
I think RA was talking with him about funding further development and thus OWNING the system. The biggest flaw I see is in this statement by Rally Safe: "RallySafe believes its product can substantially contribute to the improvement of safety in the industry and that the system will reduce the incidence of fatalities and serious injury in these events." They have no empirical evidence and as a statistician I do not believe the system to have the ability to achieve either of these claims. They could reduce fatalities that result from injuries that become a fatality due to slow response time, which is an incident with such low probability that they are talking about reductions that are completely theoretical. I am sitting by a glass window with a parking lot to my left and cars approximately 20 feet away and a very small curb. I should spend the money and build a cinder block wall to protect myself from a vehicular accident occuring and the vehicle driving into the building and crushing me and killing me. That at least actually happens a few times a year and results in a fatality and would be better money spent. Grant Hughes |

Grant, somebody has to try and stop the morons from completely fucking up rally and just like here its the "Media" and "promotion" fanbois who are the biggest problems. You could help....you are with the work you are doing. You could add your voice and say enough promo bullshit, enough TV will save us!!!!" So the peripheral people who just want to live the fantasy don't run the whole show thinking they have a mandate Like we see with the idiotic class fuck up, now with the skewed assumption that everybody wants tracking with the only question is how many more hundreds do you want to pay. I know I said I'd never come back, but when people start throwing shit about me around, kinda hard not to.
Uh... no. Seriously? I spend a shitload of my own time working with sponsors to keep them engaged and supporting the sport. Some of that support shows up as contingency money that keeps the cost of running some events down (if you can finish them) for people in some makes. While presently just subaru, I've been talking to other manufacturers to get them involved as well - and I suspect you'll see more in the future. If you had ever organised or clerked an event you'd understand the value of live tracking. Real-time scoring is actually one of the ways that the system can be supported through sponsorship. John's all about seat time. Live tracking would have saved three (?) stages at olympus this year. President is a one-year term, elected by the board. 3 board members are for sure 2 year-terms the other 2 board members I think are annual, but could be 2 year as well. One of those has been the same director for at least a decade, probably 15 years. Not allowing Canadian based rallyists would have also saved some stages at Olympus. Maybe that's a better solution considering Canada doesn't want us either. ![]() Grant Hughes |
