We've got some engineers and RF guys with experience in asset tracking looking at this as well. Apparently someone else is developing some form of tracking system in Quebec. Assuming you were generally interested in an answer: RallySafe costs vary with the number of events run, the number of cars in an event and the number of stages run. Their preference is to lease the system, not sell, so they can stay on top of firmware and hardware updates. They are a 'rally friendly' company and this is not their main product and they are not in this to 'make money.' Their system is used by Targa Taz, targa NZ, the Australian Rally Championship, some events in New Zealand and in the APRC. The next bit is HIGHLY variable based on how much, and when, the equipment is used. I used the number of stages and entries over the past few years to look at what teh costs would have been. The actual cost of using the system, including sat data time, averaged $70.32 per car when you take the cost over the year and divide it evenly across the total number of entries. On a per-event basis, the highest cost per car was $135 (low entry, high stage count event), the lowest was $45 (a single venue event that would likely be exempted from using a tracking system.) Nationals only - avg. 142, min 116, max 186. CARS and RA Nationals only - avg 115, min 83, max 155 (more events, more discount) The $120/entry figure thrown out in the discussion includes money for logistics and support at the events and is likely a high number. Looking at this as just the hardware, software and coms fee would be horrubly short sighted. That pricing also means a 'local' trained by RallySafe to support the system instead of flying in someone for each event. Don't confuse a sales brochure with a peer reviewed paper. I didn't. Not allowing Canadians would also allow you to finish higher in events. I'm not sure what you're getting at when you say Canada doesn't want you. If you're referring to Gr5 cars, anyone who tells you Canada doesn't, or won't, allow traditional Gr5 cars, without restrictors, to run in Canada either doesn't understand our new rules or is purposly misrepresenting the situation. I am purposely representing the situation. Putting G5 cars and 6 cyl cars in with Open to appease some panty wearing G2 sissies is lame. I have yet to meet a real g2 driver that fears competing against a g5 car. Grant Hughes |

In two year's time, that MIGHT be the case. First Rally: 2001 Driver (7), Co-Driver (44) Drivers (16) Clerk (10), Official (7), Volunteer (4) Cars Built (1), Engines Built (0) Cages Built (0) Last Updated, January 4, 2015 ![]()

Hardly fucked up. - Sponsor driven TV coverage has existed in Canada, sustainably, for 20 years. - It has brought with it contingency programs that have dumped high 5 figure amounts (collectively each year) directly into the hands of the competitors (of at least two different makes) for many MANY years. - CARS marketing efforts are 100% self sustaining, and have regularly put money directly in the hands of event organisers. - 'I saw it on TV' is a common refrain from people getting into, and staying in, the sport. - The member clubs, organisers and teams regularly say that having a TV program is important to them. (As do the sponsors) Comparisons between the US and Canada invariably run a 10-1 ratio. Our rally entry lists, even without the US entries, are well above 1/10th of the US entries. (half-ish?) Actually, the assumption was that given the option, very few would actually want to pay anything for a tracking system. The question was merely to find out what the acceptable price point would be if a tracking system were mandated. It is much more a question of 'how much minimum sponsorship is needed to be able to implement the system.' Have both hands free now, was holding the baby...
So 2WD is Group 2 and Group 5 combined or did you guys decide to keep the classes seperate for the national championship? By damage being done I mean, you changed the rules, uproar, modified the rules in response, unsatisfied uproar. At around this point in time I wrote the whole thing off. I mean, with the exception of Big White, Kananaskis, and Rocky, I have not really considered running in Canada anyhow. But I wonder how many other people gave up, quit paying attention, and have written off Canada in response. I also had planned to purchase a half page ad in the Tall Pines spectator guide but decided against it since it was going to have Dave's BMW and those cars were made not classable by the new rules. Which reminds me, Sno Drift is coming up... Grant Hughes |

And I was first on the road much of the day! 20.9 mph average from the time we left Bailey until we hit the tarmac. I was more thinking for ad placement in spectator guides. I'll be at shop tomorrow working on BMW parts and Subaru cage. Grant Hughes |

For 2013 and 2014 there are national classes for the 'old' Gr5 and the new (poorly named) 2wd Open which is effectively Gr2 with an allowance for restricted forced induction and a slightly larger (for CARS) displacement limit of 2.5l. (CARS Gr2 has always been an adjusted 2.4l limit - or 2.0l 16 valve limit in practical terms) After that - is a long time from now. The North American Rally Cup still exists, scores 6 of 13 potential events. with a max of 4 from either Canada or the US, must start a minimum of 2 in each country. Lately it has been won by the team that has scored 4 events. This year was a bit more of a challenge. Unrestricted large displacememt Gr5 cars are still eligible. I didn't do anyting... but I know what you mean. Which means a regional only class that could run the full length of the national event would have given you everything you wanted, and is what you would have had before the modified rules. You being all Canadians. AND you have ruined hockey this year.
NARC - I've heard of it but always have assumed it was a more Canadian thing. ![]() Regional classes follow national and new competitors look at national classing and hrbor dreams of running national championship. Grant Hughes |

FFS.. do some research of your own for once. Neither Donald Fehr nor Gary Bettman are Canadian. Sorry, perhaps it should be the World Series of Rally... but that suggests it would be US only events doesn't it? I wonder why the gawddamn Technical Geniuses in Canda can't see the future and push their weird futre.
Group F: displacement to weight. Works so good a variety of cars are competitive and good enough that after only 3-4 years of fierce agitation RallyAmericar adopted it---after fucking around with the weights. Wonder how the Canadian Experts could ignore or miss such a successful program? I always previously thought CASC and CARS were so much smarter than SCCA and RA, now with the new blood in key positions, it's lost the thread, wandered astray....a shame what damage ego-maniacs who think they're smart can do.
