I wiki'd that TLA and the first thing that came up was AGM: Air to Ground Missile.

Whoa!

That does sound useful...

Will we need to get a sponsor to pay for it or are competitors comfortable raising entry fees a couple hundred thousand dollars?

Don't worry... "the committee" has already talked to "a number of people" and there's a "general feeling" that everyone is onboard with the price increase.

Sandblast 2014 early entry will be around 47,500. It's all the same numbers, we're just changing the decimal point to a comma, and moving it over spot, so no one should really be upset about that.

Hey, if you can't afford it, you shouldn't be rallying. At least it's cheaper than the space race so be greatful.

Pretty powerful branding.

Wonder where they expect to brand crew and drivers/co-driver?
And who will do the branding.?

Think of all the leveraging of symbiotic media properties they can make millions on!

Dunno. I just saw a post in my fb feed from Bill Fogg Sr that came via "Fliptu". I haven't heard of it, so when I googled it, what came back was:

"Product

Brand pages on social media services are an after thought. Fliptu has been built from the ground up to help brands better engage & monetize their fans with three core tools, all exportable & embeddable to brand web sites:

- Ultimate Brand Fan Page (Social media aggregation)
- Fan Lookbook (Event media aggregation)
- Pop Shops (VIP offer engine)

All of this sits on a "fan interest network" where fans have 1-click access to all their favorite brands in music, sports, entertainment & lifestyle."

So ask yourself... are you ready for the ultimate brand fan page? Cause it's the next thing that will save rally. grinning smiley

Wow, that's it! Finally a way to engage and monetize fans!

We're all going to be fabulously wealthy!

Wonder who owns Fliptu?

I got this today for the upcoming biathlon race this weekend...

INCENTIVE: remember that if you volunteer for Competition Chief, Range Chief, or Timing Chief for a race (or serve as a co-chief for these chief positions twice), you receive free entry to the remaining six CBC races.

WAY TO WORK THE SYSTEM: you do not have to actually be the person volunteering to get the “volunteer credit”. Specifically, you can bring a significant other, friend, guy you found at the bus station to serve as a Range, Competition, or Timing Chief (or share the position as co-chief). Realistically, this scenario works best for the range chief or timing chief position. But for this weekend a new person to biathlon could serve as co-competition chief as I will be able to support that person. Take advantage of this option as it may make the race more entertaining for your friends or family instead of standing around in the cold. Respond to this email with any questions if you are considering this option.

So, they are actually offering FREE entries to competitors to either volunteer or provide a volunteer.
I still believe all teams should be REQUIRED to provide a volunteer to work the event or pay an additional $50-100 to support a volunteer.

I have a problem/exception to that. Since we have to usually travel great distances to get to events, it's many times hard to find someone to take the time off from work to crew, much less work. How about requiring bringing a worker OR WORKING at least one event that you're not entered in (even in a different series) during the year instead?

I support a modified version of this and don't know why it isn't in place already. When you register and pay for an event add another "product" or "item" or whatever, and call it "Volunteer Appreciation" and it costs $10 and you can buy whatever quantity you wish. Actually, make it so anybody can buy it even if they're not entering the event.

The organizers can distribute the funds how they see fit, either through swag or a lottery system or a local bar tab or gas cards or whatever.

As you can tell I've really thought this out. But it would be nice if there was an easy way to contribute to making something good happen for the volunteers. And this needs a name. Mine is "Volunteer Appreciation General Income Nexus Account" because of the classy acronym.

Just so we're all on the same page:

Quote

What are you using to define expensive? I am using $120x6 events per year as expensive, which is $720 X infinity. A one time purchase cost of below that is acceptable to me, but preferably at or below the $500 mark.

Oh, and for the record:

"Mounting Kits are available at about $200 each to buy, or $50/event to rent."

So its actually more than I thought for the system. Also, I will reiterate, for you (CARS) to post a survey that specifically states one system, and presumably just as with the recent rule changes, CARS has been working on this "a while", it sure makes it seem like you (CARS) has made up its mind. Considering there are NO OTHER SYSTEMS even mentioned in the survey, and the fact that is has been adamantly posted here that no other system seems to fit the criteria CARS has set forth, seems like a slam dunk to me. Part of the reasoning would seem to be that the time has come that systems are affordable enough and the technology advanced enough to utilize.

Apparently not is my answer to the question that was never asked.

I think US regionals are currently expensive ($900 for 100AW was just posted). We aren't far behind if this stuff goes ahead.
