Danny,

This thread was started with tongue firmly planted in cheek. So it's kind of a catchall of ideas, good, bad, sarcastic, etc.

John Vanlandingham has been screaming "Local clubs!!! Look at what's successful somewhere else and copy it!" for the 15 or so years I've known him. Canuckistan does have more local motorsports clubs than we do here in "'Merica! Fuck yeah!", land of super sized everything.

I first became dimly aware of that business of the importance of the Club structure oh way back in about 1972, first full season in Sweden...If the asshole in the computer business were such assholes I could scan this article from 1976 Motocross Action magazine where way back then 36 years ago I was interviewed and supplied photos to an article about racing in Sweden what's it like..
But alsa the POS thing says--in an ironic fuck up beyond belief---the installation disc has all the intructions in the wrong language, which just happens to be....

wait for it.......................

steady!

Swedish...

But it can laod a bunch of useless shit like HP Shopping shit

But it won't scan.
Kill all software people and all marketing fools.

Uh huh!

Remember, this thread is in the " Rumours, Lies & Damn Lies" sub forum. So nothing here can be trusted.

This thread was created as a response to the years and years of "Big news coming, wait for the announcement!" statements and the "if only we X, rally would boom and grow!" statements.

I just checked, this thread has it's fourth birthday coming up in two weeks. Someone should go through and summarize with one-liners all the "this will save rally" ideas in here. smiling smiley

Grassroots rally. It's what I think about.

Rally, heal thyself.

And you too can save rally through the Fiasco Rallysport Praise Lord Vanlandingham Network! For just a small donation of $19.95 a week, we will pray to the rally gods on your behalf!!!! Feel the Hammer of Thor shatter the bounds that are keeping rally in the US of A from overtaking NASCAR and the NFL combined to be the biggest spectator spectacular in this great land!

Feel the power of the Holy Spirit flow through your veins and the fuel lines of your rally car! Just send that donation now! Your personal rally healer is standing by to pray for you!!!!

This would probably be funnier if it was late in the evening and I had some of the Sangre de Christo in me (or whatever other substances may be on hand to transport one to the spirit world).

We're building an E36 Chumpcar at our shop right now.
Technically, there is nothing that we are doing on it that will not be rally legal.
For Chump, it has to remain virtually stock.
Swap struts, shocks, and springs to gravel coilovers, toss on skidplates, lights, lexan, and go enter Rallysolo.
It will also be able to be used as a school/rental car. Fly into Denver for a one-two day course with an instructor in one of our three cars. Write a check for $12-35k and come back in two months and pick up your ready to go rally car...

WRC in Canada will save rallying...

I strictly post this in jest, of course. For a WRC event to happen in Canada, especially considering it practically bankrupted an event last time it was supposed to go ahead, would take a miracle/alignment of the stars. I am happy that CARS at least considers the possibility, but doesn't just chase it like a rabid chipmunk (and has put off the "offer" to do said rabid chipmunk chase a while ago IIRC).

Seems like I last heard the fee for the FIA to 'observe' and event prior to approval was about $250k and that was several years ago. BS or true??

There are a lot of rumours about costs of WRC events that simply aren't true. "Rally isn't Formula 1" is how it was put to me.

That said, even if an observation cost were $250,000 that would just be a part of the equation of if the 'return' is worth the investment. That fee is also a fraction of what the operating budget for a WRC event would be. (3-5 million per year.)

Um - no practically about it. The chase for a WRC event killed two events a little over a decade ago. Lessons were learned and things would be done differently next time, if there is a next time.
