So who came up with this rabbit plan? Is it so Block and Higgins are in the same amount of dust? Yeom is fast, is he fast enough to not get cought by Block or Higgins on a longer stage? I here Higgins gets to start 4th at 100 acre behind Block lestage and Yeom. He should have the road cleared good by then.

Are they not doing seeded draws anymore?
By speed factor, Yeoman wouldn't be in seeded draw so would start behind the top four regardless.

No...that's the change.

http://www.rally-america.com/RuleBulletin/Rule_Bulletin_2014_003.pdf

Yoeman (or first Open driver not in seeded draw) gets to be first on the road when stewards decide he's needed.

Not sure if it is for dust or road-sweeping. I seem to remember a couple events last year where the losing open drivers were blaming dust, since they didn't draw first start position.

Seems odd that they would use the Rabbit at 100AW...I can't imagine there being much dust.

fastest car NOT in the seeded draw starts first on the road. Then they invert points for the seeded draw cars. Higgins is first in points. Pastrana and Block have no points so they start in front of Higgins with Yeom being the rabbit.

At least this is how I under stand it. But still confusing to me. Not sure where Lestage starts?

Thanks Jeff. Hadn't seen that bulletin.
Probably doing it at 100AW as a test to get an idea of how it works in an environment where it's not as much of an issue. Oregon day two can have crazy dust.

At first I thought it was stupid, but the way you explained it makes sense.

Yeoman first on the road as long as he's not caught, gets an advantage but probably still wont be fast enough to be top 3 without attrition. The other top 3-4, all fight the same dust battles. Those guys are so close, the dust advantage pretty much decides the rally.

If this were true (and I don't know if it is, or not) then there should be a very noticeable mathematical correlation between start order and finish position for the top three.

If there is, then this will be an interesting improvement.

If there is not, then this is the worst kind of rules meddling and lobbying.

In my experience, there is either bad dust or it's not an issue. When it's bad, I can't imagine it NOT being an advantage to be first on the road.
Maybe this is a special rule for Yeoman to get his speed factor over 90 by giving him a clear road. smiling smiley

Future Conspiracy: Rabbit pulls over a mile in to a very long stage, lets 2nd car pass, and limps the rest of the way.

Bad Rabbit!

I'm a cynic so it's chase-the-money thought process in my mind of how the rule came around.

On another note, when would the stewards use this, especially if it's not uniformly applied to all events as the rule implies, right?

My cynical first thought was to change the name of the bulletin from "Rabbit" to "Yoeman". winking smiley

I was also undecided if the rule proposal originated from Block or Yoeman.

I was just watching the Oregon video (trying to find instances of guys complaining about dust)...and found the opposite. Higgins was expecting to lose 25 seconds on the first pass of the stages the second day due by going out first and having to sweep the roads.
