The thing that blows me away is when someone says, "I wish I could race cars, but it's too expensive." Then they get into a 30-40k+ daily driver.

Meh. It just means that they have the common sense to not sacrifice daily lifestyle to engage in a hobby.

You mean not sacrifice the appearance of wealth and being above social status.
You can have a very nice and very reliable vehicle for 5-20k.
Says the guy who just bought a big house and a fifth BMW.

I'm not a 'judgey' kind of guy.
All I was saying was that for some, racing isn't as high on the priority list as it is for others, and that's OK.

It is... but when you say you can't afford it thats a lie. You could afford it, you just choose not because driving a nice DD is more important.

If you DD a brand new STI you could finance racing in a 2wd car doing a few races a year for 4-5 years; if you choose to drive a 10k DD. Provided you dont ball it up, and have some mechanical experience.

It's the guys who buy a $40k car to daily drive, or tow with, that complain they can't afford to rally and start a go-fund-me that are annoying.

It's all about priorities for one thing. Some people like to make payments and never own anything. Rally is expensive for a hobby race guy, but so are the UTV guys, boat guys, dragster guys, airplane guys, some of the shooter guys, Harley guys etc.

It doesn't take much of the crap dished out online by the havenots to eliminate any online participation from the folks who have a bit more income.

"Poor folks" always bitch about the competitors who can afford more, yet the higher tax bracket guys never bitch about the 'trash' at the back of the pack. Why is that?

There is a reason that so much conversation has moved to FB and in the end we all lose a bit.

There is way more money spent on by your average boat guy than your average rally guy! I am cool with all hobbies and all tax brackets. It's when people say, "I wish I could afford to race." It reminds me of that one teen award talk that Ashton Kutcher gave.

I haven't worked under 60 hour week since I quit my job to commit 100% to self employment. Just leaving work now, here stocking up supplies and such since wife's contractions seem to be starting. I will be here tomorrow and Wednesday most likely.

I'm fairly certain that getting lucky has a negative effect on entry levels, while increasing population, making it more difficult to secure stage roads as the sprawl overtakes the planet.

Chastity will save rally! Maybe STPR's bannination of social lubricant really IS the way!

Congrats...obviously you haven't been working ALL the time .

Cost versus value needs to be considered. If people don't see the value in something then it costs too much in their minds. If we use the Anders theory of 2.576 rallys per year and consider the total cost in dollars and time from start to finish for that year it is pretty high, especially the first year. If you add a DNF in there, a scoring issue, a muddy muddy road etc then that can affect the perceived value.

We can only maintain organizational costs to a certain level, beyond that we should look to low or no cost things to add value for the competitor or future competitor.
