What's the harm in those morons calling something known by one name all over the entire world, and us, by gentle means, helping them to correct their sloppy speech?
Or should we just become like Californians and answer "Like, whatever" to everything? Just more vagueness and ultimately bullshit--cf "rallycross" meant something for decades, Silly Car Clown Assholes being a gang of poseurs and wannbes appropriates the term and calls a bunch of guys driving 98% a bunch of near stock cars slowly around a field "rally cross"---which has nothing to do with rally, nothing to do with rally cross.....and then another group comes along and calls some made for TV shit Globular Rally Cross.. Words mean nothing in the end. John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! I love the:
"I'm going to Idaho for a rally." Looks at me like I must be some kind of neo-nazi redneck. "Like a political rally." "Uh no, it's the european style of rally duh." "So what does that mean?" "It's rally. Like Monte Carlo." "Oh, so it's like a beer festival then?" "No, it's a rally." "Oh, well now I understand. Thanks for clarifying." Grant Hughes |

No harm... it just won't happen. evar. And it h'aint the fault of the masses, it's the fault of a language loaded with homonyms, homographs, and homophones, combined with a decreasing appreciation for language and its nuances. To be fair, context helps a lot with straightening out ambiguity of 'which witch is which,' but when someone is recently exposed to this disease we share, context may not help. (WTF is a yump?) or... we could be happy they're talking about us and focus on fostering new interest so that one day they'll sit around saying 'ya, brah, I used to be one of those prototypical flatbrimmers who, like, called the sport rally RACING... how whack is that, man.' Franly, if we think of reactions to 'these folk' as a dimmer switch - not on/off - we just might find a bit more peace in the world around us. Unless you're talking out of your ass... in which case words, in the end, are vital. ![]() There is something frustrating, and fascinating at the same time, about a dynamic language. It isn't that the words, in the end or from the mouth, mean nothing... but that their meanings, and uses, adapt and change over time. 20 years ago, nobody talked about 'googling' things... and if they did, it certainly didn't mean what it does today. So once we remove the fear of change... Rally Racing really does get the idea of what we do across to most people. The harm in correcting someone calling rally rally racing is that everyone has incredibly thin skin these days and they will feel insulted that you Dared to correct them.
and that person who was ready to check out "rally racing" won't check out rally after being corrected. but in all actuality most people these days just won't do auto racing of any kind, as it doesn't fit into the McMansion, buy a new car ever 2 years , and update my facebook with the latest food i ate, or the dump i took after eating.. oh and by the way, how come no one from this forum has liked my latest facebook photo of the dinner i bought last night? ![]() |

"Those rally cars are silly"
"They're fast daddy" "There it goes" "It's like daddy's car" "Daddy, I want a rally car" "brup brup brup brup brup... Bwaaah, bwaaah, bwaaaahhhhhhhh!!!" As said by a two year old over breakfast burritos and Group F videos. This one to be precise: Grant Hughes |

Very fast.. but the first 3-4 cars seem to be taking a bad line (apex anyone?)
take the first car for example . amazing corner entry speed. but do you notice how he loses velocity as he's fighting to stay on the road. 2nd car as well. cars #3-4 make it work (still appears to be apexing too early and throwing the car sideways a bit too late) car #5 goes for an even Earlier apex, and throws his car sideways a bit later.. does not stay on the road. Now its MUCH MUCH better / Easier to coach someone who has the speed, when and where to reel it in a little bit. its very hard to take someone who is slow , and coach them to drive faster. very cool video still, but it makes it look like the F-cup is filled with people who just want to throw their cars into corners at a high rate of speed but don't understand a racing line. wow the black and white bmw took a good line, was very sideways and was visually / noticeably faster down the straight away than the first 8 cars then a few cars later a black and green bmw goes for an early apex (or no apex) and turns in too late. also almost goes off the road. the entry speeds are VERY impressive. makes me wish i had a rally car so cheap compared to my expandable income so i wouldn't drive like a chicken :O |
