Ummm... 120 miles of stage, 70 is just the second day..
$200 rebate for regional teams not wanting notes or recce.
You could enter for $700, or just under $6 per mile if you wanted it to be.

If the Subaru contingency is the same as last year...
Entry fee of $400, $3.33/ mile with no notes/recce. $600 entry, $5 per mile.

Oh I see it now. Shitty PDF and maybe shock at the unjustifiable $2375 (credit card ) price for a meaningless little event nobody cares about.
Checked the Supps for a WRC event lately?

Not everybody drives new blue Subarus..does their contingency cover ALL models, all years?


The no recce without notes is beyond understanding (duh, what do you do recce for; to make your notes. Why did organiser notes spring up? To save people the time needed to do recce)

The only people paying $2375 are the ones who either don't care or the ones who are too disorganized to not pay that much.

Yah, I've looked at a few WRC Supps. The WRC teams at GB this past weekend paid as much as $135usd/mile in entry fees.

The Subaru entry credit doesn't say anything about age or model. Presumably Mat's justly would qualify.

All I was saying about notes/recce was that if you wanted to enter the event for the lowest price possible... Run it blind.

You sure about the contingency...somebody with an older car--the still just fine for 99.9% of us 1st gen Legacy---said their money was for 05 or something and later.
Don't know since its not a factor.

Not sure which ordinary humans you're talking about:

At the US event, an ordinary human can get the full 120 miles for just under $6/mile if you want to run blind or $7.50/mile with notes and one-pass recce.
If you want to be a part of the 'national' event, you're up to $15.41/mile, can't refuse the notes, but are eligible - if in a subaru - for $500 entry credit for being in the first 10 National entries, bringing it down to $1350, $11.25/mile.
Of course, the 'big teams' aren't paying 10x the entry fee of the local guys.

At GB:
You could run the '3 day' rally, 113 miles, for as little as $12usd/mile.
With the right homologated car, and being a British amateur, you could run the 195 mile WRC proper for $2420, $12.41usd per mile.
You get over $21/mile if you're not 'British.'

If you doubt me, read the entry credit information for yourself:

I see no mention of model or year restrictions on accessing the funds.

The SP payouts... absolutely age weighted:

Rally isn't going to get any cheaper John, seriously. Road use fees are running the cost up dramatically for some events, cancelling others as we've seen. You can bitch all you want about the fees for a national and ridicule those who have the funds but without that extra income to offset the expenses there likely wouldn't be a rally.

Rally is totally discretionary, no one is forced to do it. It doesn't take much continued stress from budget woes to burn out an organizing group. The whole shebang is teetering on a very slippery slope.

Might as well add:
PFR (just north of you) was ~$8.15usd/planned mile (if you enter both national and regional)
Rocky was ~$7.16/planned mile ($9.60/actual mile)(if you enter both national and regional)
Big White will be ~$8usd/planned mile

Tall Pines will be $9.32/mile (if you enter both national and regional)

Edit to add:
If you enter the Tall Pines National with a Subaru you're down to $6.05 usd/mile

The whole "dollar per mile" (or "dollar per minute"winking smiley metric, in my opinion, is worth very little, for the simple reason that racers do not, in aggregate, base their decisions on those numbers.

Dollar per mile (DPM) probably has the same level of correlation on any particular issue as RTAFWIOT. (Right turns at four way intersections on transits)

"This is a performance rally consisting of 16 special stages to be run over closed roads, linked by transit sections with liberal time allowances. All competitive driving will be on gravel stages except for one short (~300m) section of pavement in one stage. About 56
% of the competitive driving will be in daylight and 44%
in darkness (75% daylight and 25% darkness for the
regional). Weather can be very unpredictable.
Temperatures can range from –20C to +10C. Competitors and service crews may encounter dry or wet gravel, fresh snow, packed snow or even icy conditions. Road condition updates will be posted on the event website as the event approaches.
Total length of the National route will be ~498 kilometers, including ~191 kilometers of stage (38%) and ~307 kilometers of transit. The Regional route will

I agree completely, but more from the idea that the quality of that mile is hard to measure combined with the idea people would likely pay more for better roads and better event operations. (or, they won't pay less for worse roads and worse event infrastructure.)

I don't agree, at all. One of the reasons I stopped running Maine/NEFR many years ago was because it was only ~90 competitive miles for the same basic cost as any other RA event (basicly boils down to cost per mile).

People judge value on lots of different things. Cost per mile, cost to get there, type of roads, organizational issues, roughness or smoothness, total entry fee, one day/two day and etc. All valid because it means somethng to the person doing the consideration.

I think we all agree it would be very nice to see the costs drop, and I think we all agree that isn't bloody likely. Comparing costs to Europe, Indonesia, Maine is really just idle thinking as there are so many variables, even in regions between counties and states.

Without viable input to realistically reduce costs the bitching and whatnot does more harm than good.

We need to rewrite the definiton to the word professional regarding sports.

We then need to start a business that decides if someone can use the word professional in sports. Also throw in if they qualify to be able to be considered an athlete. Use all funds to pay rally entry fees!

Are you getting paid enough to live off of the income? Then you are a professional.
Do you make some money at it supplementing you're primary income (still positive gain ie. make more than you spend?) Then you are a semi-professional.
Do you play for free at no or limited personal expense, maybe get free products here or there? Then you are an amateur.
Are you spending a large amount of your personal wealth trying to become a professional? Then you are an idiot.
