So I've had my head up my ass with this House project the last couple months. Whats been happening? I've caught a snippet here or there through facebook and Alex cajoled me into chatting my way through a rally based podcast here a week or 3 ago. I'm about 2 months behind schedule on the house and need a little pick me up of rally gossip.

Any end of season chatter? V8 swaps for next year? Sneaky special but cheap tires that no one has tested yet? Is Culbertson going to finish his car now that he's got a wife to be to keep him focused? Were the new rallies in the real midwest (colo, wyo) the bees knees?

Anders banning people from Facebook groups will save rally!

He's been jerking NASA off forever about their "championship" and it's format, then posts a poll about what makes an event national. Apparently he didn't like my poll option that everyone started voting for, can't take what he dishes I suppose.

We have some sneaky special but cheap tires going down to Mustafa Samili to run on his Quattro. Will be interesting to see how the 195/65R15 medium compound Zestinos handle a bigger car on actual real stage roads.

For news on rally being saved... I think rally is doing REALLY, REALLY well in North America right now. It seems like a lot more teams are sticking with the sport a lot longer. Lots of shops popping up that cater to the market. Events going strong. New tire manufacturers getting into the scene. Are we back to 2000/2001 SCCA levels? No. And I don't think we will be for a long time, as the costs have gone up so much relative to wages. But overall, things are quite healthy.

Rally America was able to add brand new events to the overall calendar across USA and had plenty of entrants. That is super cool.

And while I don't like some decisions ARA has made, they certainly are receptive and overall are a much better org than RA was.

Would have been nice to see dates that weren't directly on top of ARA events that had a history of being on those dates. (I'll call that predatory date selection, although I do recognize events can't always get the dates they want in the beginning.)

Yeah because the wholesale surrender and destruction of amateur rally in 1997 and 1998 to corporate greed was the greatest thing ever.

It's hard to keep track. Anders made one that is labeled "North America Rally" not to be confused with the "main/biggest" one that is labeled "North American Rally (Discussion Group)". Of course, Anders did that for a specific reason, as he does with everything. But basically, its a NASA cheerleader group that masquerades as an actual all inclusive group.

Then there is Caswell's group, don't get me started on that. At least all the idiots can go there.

I don't disagree, but then again, ARA kind of came in with a hostile takeover of events, so... all's fair in love and war, yadda yadda. I'm not particularly fond of RA, but they did (tried?) to do what they had to do when they ran the main national series. ARA has had some missteps so far that hardly paints them as having the purest of intentions either. So a big "meh" on date conflicts. Doubt many running the RA events would have done the ARA ones anyways.

Edit-
Looks like 33 entrants last year at defi, 40 currently entered! Much better than the 21 that entered in 2015!

Except that it was the events that came together to form ARA... or at least that's how I understand it. (from many close sources, who I won't name just to piss off JV)

Conflicts can, and do, impact the volunteer base as well. Avoiding conflicts opens the possibility of people running both series. Choosing conflicting dates ensures the people will have to choose. For Ojibwe and Wyoming... MANY teams were driving 'past' the other event to get to the one they chose. A one week move by one of the events COULD have seen more entries at BOTH.
Even a couple more entries can help an event's bottom line.

Sure, I suppose it was. Still, no one (person, company, organization) needs to take that into consideration.

Again, I'm not saying what RA did was "right", just that it's their choice. Did they come off as petty and vindictive? Sure.

On the last page I see talk about how well an R2 was doing and all of the awd haters are out smiling smiley..

http://www.m-sport.co.uk/motorsport/rallying/m-sport-the-cars/fiesta-r2-details/technical-specification

If O'Neil is specing them like that , the damn things are setup better than 90% of us subarat guys.

I'd like to drive one just to see what it feels like. That suspension/brake setup should inspire quite a bit of confidence in the driver and the gearbox just makes it easier...
