I had a radical idea. No vehicles built in the 21st century.
All rally cars are MY1999 or older. Let's face it, the cars of that era were the pinnacle of the sport. smiling smiley

Inverted Spitzner rule will Save Rally!!!

I have another radical idea but it's proprietary.

Radicals would make crappy rally cars.

Drinking Seb Loeb's piss* will increase your rallying commitment and performance potential and thus save rally!

* 9 out of 10 cats found drinking SLP to be a tastier and more enjoyable experience than supping conventional big brand US beer pisswater.

Hyundai's breakthrough innovative new design of not using a throttle pedal and just having the engine sit on the rev limiter certainly appears to keep the pace hot.

^^This could be a thing.....

Are you still working?

How about any of the other 3 or 4 guys who still look at Rally Anarchy?

I'm not.

I'm a studio driver now and of course Hollywood is completely shut down.

The good news(maybe)is that this was a planned down time for me anyway,as we wrapped the film I was working on a couple weeks ago.

Supposed to start on another film in May with another honeywagon gig, which are usually good hours(usually 60-75 hours a week).

Was going to see if I could day play on some tv or whatever a few hours till then, but that ain't happening now for sure.

Was thinking about applying for a trucking job for the supermarkets because they are obviously going gangbusters right now and they are short on CDL drivers, but just talked to my boss and he said hang in there a bit more,he thinks things will be back on track by May.

Of course-nobody knows for sure.

Required rally(ish) content:

Other than acquiring better income thru a better career(although 1st 1/2 of 2019 I didn't work because Hollywood had an epically slow 1st half and now we have this Beer Flu in 2020),I haven't done jack shit.

Grass o cross car(2004 2.3 powered Focus championship winning!!LOL)with blown engine still sits in yard since 2014.

Have almost all the swap stuff to put a cheap 2.5 duratec in it,but not sure if I I want to do that(and run group 5 open class),or throw another boneyard 2.3 in(CRS performance stock class?),or say fuck it and throw a cage in a cheap craigslist truck and run mid pack while buying off the shelf suspension and performance bits,or wait till that right cheap logbooked car comes around in whatever class it fits in(I wonder if my 6'5" 315lb ass would fit in this escort? Probably not....)

https://www.specialstage.com/forums/showthread.php?87404-1995-Ford-(Mazda)-Escort-GT

https://greenville.craigslist.org/cto/d/greenville-rally-car/7086469552.html

Picked up another 2.3 ZX3 for a cheap daily driver(backup parts?)and It,like my rallyx car,has been great.

Also picked up a cheapish Jeep zj with V8 power to run at Glen Helen.

SCCA shit the bed on RallyTrials(shocker-I know!!)but the local flatbillers pretty much run the same Glen helen course just with more jumps so maybe I'll give that a try.

That is..if the Wuhan doesn't get me.

It's called Jump Champs. Time trial format. https://thejumpchamps.com/

But they just postponed the next May 9th event with this covid shit going on.

Back on topic-The next "this will save rally"? Not dying from a virus will save rally!!

Post up people!

What/how are you guys doing?

John-you too. I know you said you are not making suspenders anymore...making something else or???

Still working, but from home for now thanks to the Dos Equis virus.

The work from home is actually kind of a blessing, as I was weeks behind on documentation updates. I've been juggling production and updates simultaneously (which a manager rightly compared to rebuilding an airplane while flying it), and it's been challenging for the journalist to grind through all the Injun-Earring stuff. smiling smiley

With the remote work, I'm catching up.

Google "new iBOT" and you can see the wheels I help turn.

Hoping I can get back on the track with the steaming pile of XR4 Lemons car taking up space in the yard someday...

Wow..that iBot is pretty cool.

Hope that project takes off for you.

What's the XR need?

Re: Covid19 Crap shoot.

No work at the moment for me, electricians have a hard time with working from home....

However after putting a nice fist sized hole in the A86's engine at the Cochrane rally a couple of weeks ago at least I had time to rip the dead one out and a replacement fitted.
Also got an engine swap to do on another rally car up here. Just because we can't play doesn't stop the fettling.

I am also ironing out the details for the Group D Challenge at PFR later this year, if the rally runs then so does the challenge.
So anyone with a pre 2000 2wd car in the PNW or Western Canada and are tempted by the idea send me a pm and I'll add you to the list..
would like to get more info

What's the XR need?
Lemons XR4:
  • Needs engine and a spare. I've nuked all but one of my 2.3T Frods for a variety of issues, mostly having to do with either leaning the sucker out and melting pistons or having the oil leak out of some ancient fitting at high velocity and making rotating assemblies not rotate. Kind of sick of blowing up the stock motor, but can't come up with anything else that's cheap and makes enough power to not be annoying on the track (slower than stock sucks).
  • Then rust repairs.
  • Then reinstall the fuel tank or put a cell in it.
  • Then a fire system, because insurance companies.
  • And belts. And probably a seat.
Yeah, I should just haul the mess to Schnitzers and buy a nice bottle of bourbon with the proceeds.

Then there's the street XR4.
  • Limited slip (used 7" viscous) doesn't seem to choooch anymore.
  • Three brake calipers are frozen.
  • It'll only make 7 lbs. of boost for some reason (suspect the aftermarket waste gate actuator).
  • The JVABs in the front need a less ghetto top mount system than currently installed (I got the parts in the fall).
  • The control arms need replacing.

And it's in storage. But since we're supposed to get 6" of snow tomorrow, I'm fine with that.

2. Finish stuffing the wiring and switch to my Dakota Digital ECD 100 https://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=1208/mode=prod/prd1208.htm that I installed in my RX-7 V8 car last summer after changing from a T-5 to a T-56 transmission.

3. Clean and lube my RX-7 V8 moonroof mechanism.

4. Rebuild the carburetor from my E-350 ambulance (formerly my tow vehicle).

5. Finish throwing out old rally photos, stickers, etc.

Yikes...that alot of needs...

I almost brought another xr home last year...

87 bi-wing-black..looked good..rust free,upgraded turbo,front mount intercooler and already
T-'5'd.

Guy was asking $3k.. I was lusting over it HARD.

In the end I decided I didn't need the guaranteed headaches that would surely be coming with that purchase.

Of course then I promptly went had to go out and buy a 98 v8 ZJ.

The Viscous in the full time TC is bad(they default to locked usually)so the front driveshaft is currently out.

I'll just throw in a rebuilt TC sometime this year...priorities...

Jeep also needed all motor mounts.

And PO did the 2" spacers on old tired springs with el cheapo uber stiff shocks for the lift.

No thanks-just picked up some Old man emu HD coils along with a short arm tubular arm kit to replace the factory "curtain rod" CA's.

Once I see what height it settles too,I'll probably just throw on some Bilstein 5150's for now.

Fixed the door locks...pass window just stopped working...and I think I'm starting to have the infamous Magnum engine plenum leak.

Speaking of infamous..knock on wood but the Chrysler electrics work pretty good..except occasionally for no apparent reason the turn signals...then they fix themselves.....

It's a Jeep...just empty every pocket.
