Been saying that since 1987..Joined local clubs and took Canajian licences...already say 'eh' more than they do and only gooten worse as I've grown deafer-er...Was even officially appointed CASC Rocky Mountain Region Plenipotentiary Negotiator to SCCA NW Region to try and discuss inter-regional cooperation. Nothing but anger from 'thems that be" at anything suggested locally... Oh well "Use the word Horticulture in a sentence , John" said Mrs Green (third Grade teacher--no relation!) "You can lead a whore to cultcha but you can't make her think"... "John! Marschieren!" Noch einmal nach den front für mich! Yep. You see Shindle and Vokes over on the secret Facebook thing singing the praises of clubs as THE central anomaly about rally in the US (aside from the 62% Subaru filled start fields) and how the idea of a base, a foundation is what is needed? Harumph! I've been pushing that idea since before Vokes was born and probably before Shindle was out of diapers. Hasn't worked yet.... Then again I've only been trying for 32 years now... Facebook is anything but secret... it is a huge time waster though. Shindle and Vokes fundamentally agree with something you've been saying for 32 years and somehow you feel the need to Why not celebrate like minded posts? The 'club' mentality goes beyond simply forming a club and having a few meetings, it is much more about building a community and working as a group to benefit the community. I find it is much MUCH easier to ask people to come out and volunteer for an event I am hosting for 'the club' that I would ever feel asking someone to volunteer for a personal project that I may, or may not, make money from. The problem is, for some, working together to help the whole sounds awfully socialist. Because those 2 have been so vocal in their shit talking towards me, obviously.. Particularly a little consumer-boy on the one hand and a mere never-built-anything-himself co-driver saying "Everything you know is outdated" and bullshit like that. So it's over the top ironic to see them saying what I've been saying since about 1975 (then in reference to another sport that the US and Canada"s local scenes were light-years behind in terms of driver skills and fundamental understanding how to do the "whole thing" (organsiing, structure, driving, choosing what to concentrate on to improve individual results and collective results) OK? Irony.. [quoute] The 'club' mentality goes beyond simply forming a club and having a few meetings, it is much more about building a community and working as a group to benefit the community. I enjoy pointing out that the country that epitomises better than any other a absurd mythology of the individual and individuality (meaning the definition of an individual is defined as which consumer products he buys) has never done anything worth mentioning --except John Buffum for a while) in this sport, while the countries which produce and endless line of individual world champions and world championship worth equipment and parts and whole cars and truly famous events are all Socialist to the core and have been for over a hundred years. It all makes sense why if one studies the societies.. Those with the idea of the value of collective effort flourish, and those that where those ideas are shat on and despised, in this sport (and many other areas of their societies) resemble more and more 3rd World countries.
