Clubs and social structures, build vs buy, Life the Universe and Everything
March 14, 2013 01:24AM
My good friend Andre Steere wrote something in our epic :The next big thing that;s going save US Rally this in respone to Danster from Scotlands description of the club structure in Scotland and tat other country below them, Pommieland or Angleterre or whatever it is.

Danny,

This thread was started with tongue firmly planted in cheek. So it's kind of a catchall of ideas, good, bad, sarcastic, etc.

John Vanlandingham has been screaming "Local clubs!!! Look at what's successful somewhere else and copy it!" for the 15 or so years I've known him. Canuckistan does have more local motorsports clubs than we do here in "'Merica! Fuck yeah!", land of super sized everything.

I mentioned I had become dimly aware years ago and even worked together with a young journalist on a couple of magazine "features" on the differences between the US, where the competition was thin and not a lot of racing, and Sweden where Swedish Championship events were considered harder to win than World Championship events

Anyway just so you guys can have a laugh and say Jeeezuz, the fawker hasn't changed his tune in 35 years, but it does apply to us'n cause rally is organsied the same way,

Anyway hope they're legible..(There some things edited for the US readership, din't want to talk too much about working under the table, no taxes, being illegal etc)

We need clubs.

From page 43: "A typical club race: PA system, bulldozers, flagmen and lots of spectators."

JV awake = Bullshitter
JV napping = Bulldozer?

(In this context - which is as a joke - Bullshitter is simply a description of someone who can talk at length on just about any topic and is not meant to be derogatory in any way)

Woah woah woah Anders, have you really taken the time to check out the specifications of these bulldozers?
What classes would they run in?
I mean a CAT D9 is packing around 400hp. And a CAT D11 has around 800hp. And both their engines are sporting at least one of those dangerous turbo things. Just what sort of restrictors would need fitted to slow the dozers down and save the children from certain doom?

That aside I do like your idea of yellow vehicles being allowed to compete, maybe there could be a class created where I could enter a Suzuki "Swift" RM250?
If I can re-engineer Mr Suzukis woeful attempts at engine development and the curse of the 2 stroke powervalve then I will get this project fired up and start smokin again! smoking smiley

We're gonna have to put restrictors on those bulldozers. Or only allow them to use rubber tracks, or both.

What I want to know is whether I'll need to change the shock valving on my bulldozer if I decide to sometimes run with heavy swaybars and sometimes run with no swaybars.

And please don't ruin my question with any irrelevant nonsense, such as the absence of a suspension.

The fastest Caterpillar tracked vehicle will keep up with an M1 Abrams main battle tank. It is called a DEUCE.

Rally dozer!

That almost resulted in me spraying a mouthful of Southern Comfort (it's all I have in stock...gotta hit the booze store and the beer store) across my computer screen.

A cocktail or two is always good for finding your way into the spirit world, or at least making you give less of a shiitake about stupid things. You don't NEED it for Rally Anarchy.

Specialstage on the other hand? Yeah, that's pretty much unreadable unless you're lit like a Roman Candle.

I've heard that when they rally bulldozers overseas, every dozer makes the road a little straighter with every pass.

This results in the dozers getting faster and faster as each one goes through, with those at the back of the pack reaching the dangerous top speeds of SEVEN MILES PER HOUR!

"We tell them, don't cut, but what they do, they cut. It is ridiculous. We put hay bales out on corners to keep them fromcutting but those were gone in about 20 seconds. Finally we realized the solution, umbrella girls. Now we have no problems and are rich."

Back to the clubbie thing, that's sort of what is happening in Texas. After a drought of rally related events a few people that really wanted rally in Texas have groomed a couple properites, one for rallycross and the other for rallysprint. They've started a grassroots group of rallycrossers and have been introducing them to rallysprint. They help each other find appropiate donor cars and a number of them have teamed up to build rally cars and get into rally proper.
