More often than not, it doesn't work that way in the volunteer world. When I see a reasonable chance to grow someone into a role, I do it.

Here is a better question then Keith: why were the newer safety standards implemented in the first place?

I don't think anybody reasonably thinks that we can ever go backwards, but I think that people feel it is of value to think costs through before pushing ahead. Unfortunately, we don't have a time machine.

Also unfortunately, the seat rules being revised at the last minute has already cost some competitors $1k plus in buying new seats that they don't actually need. And the market for used FIA seats (even in "like new" condition) is pretty dismal.

The dumb ass requirements for HANS devices, fire suits, etc will be dropped. Stage rallies will require at least 150 miles of stages, and a minimum running time of 20 hours of which at least 4 must be in darkness. No one will blow TV network people. Subaru factory teams will be run out of the country.
