Since John is being obtuse. Robert, The insert can be moved up or down relative to the upright (i.e. inside the tube) so long as the bottom doesn't interfere with the axle ____________________________________________________________- One. I suppose that depends on how rough the event is. We usually run with the suspension close to stock height -- probably not more than 1.25" higher than stock except for at Sandblast. Note that too high in the rear, and it will be a handful in high-speed corners. ____________________________________________________________- One. Derpitty-do-dah, totally got it now. I was stuck thinking about a stock strut with the mounting ears not moving. The ears were just raised on the outer tubes to make up for the difference with the top mount being lower. |

Yeah I'm tired of second guessing from folks that haven't really looked at the basic parts and see how they are...The stock stuff everybody has like Bob and so many others I've re-done ---and it must be at least 20 Golves/Jettas bu now I've re-done----have about 160mm travel, a real long bottom tube and enormous overlap topped off with space wasting top pin so the overall stock package is yay long for piddly travel.. I ditch the stock lower tube, we remove internal spacers so the travel goes to about 190mm, then remachine the top pin and use my own (copy of Group N Ford) upper spring seat saving a whole bunch of length.... so the insert is +30, the top is redone be around -20 min so overall length comes out barely longer.. It works fine as plenty of guys know and use to pretty good effect.. But what advantage to I get from explaining everything to Culbertson? None. I think I'm going to raise my towers up an 1" and fab my own sheet metal parts. How thick of a plate should I use for the top?
FYI: I use a jumbo zip tie between the bolts on the shock body to hold the brake line in place since the OEM bracket is no longer there. Dave Grenwis - DG Rally - www.dgrally.com |
