I went to the address on the website and found myself in the middle of suburbia. Then I looked at the google maps page I had printed out, and I think I had typed in an incomplete address. Then I had to get back to work. And then, and then, and then... I suck.

Since this is a Focus rear suspension thread. I have had yet another DMS shock problem so I am looking for a more affordable spare / replacement options.

I was thinking about going with a Bilstien shock in the back since I like the DMS spring rates / ride height. The DMS rear shock is a pin mount on top and a single shear rod end on the bottom. Since the mounts are somewhat customized on both ends does anyone have a good way to find a shock that will work from Bilstien's catalog. Should I just call them? I only seem to be able to find circle track shocks in the catalog that have measurements.

I will take measurements this evening but I think as long as I can get a pin mount shock that is close I should be able to modify the mounts to make it fit on the car.

Call them and talk to Bret Norgaard. He has a rear shock figured out, on paper at least...

You had a rear DMS shock failure?

It was not a failure but it is hemorrhaging fluid. It is still damping but every time the car was in for service the shock was covered in fluid and if you let the car sit it will create a puddle under the shock. I know this type of leak has happened a couple of times on one of the other spec foci.

The overall lenth of the stock Fucci shock is same as stock Xratty shock, this would lead me to think Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm we can use the same unit. All but that miserable top pin mount......

Makes me wonder "What did I do fir all those VWs that I supplied suspension with pin mounts? What what WHAT!!!!!!!!!"---cause i sure sent a lot of VW Golf, and some old Subarus and some other junk with pin mounts, so i must have done something!

Call if you'd like, this one is toooooooooooo easy.

What's the back of an Xratty weigh?

Just wondering if we're in the right ballpark.

What kinda shocks do you have for the Xratty?

Bilstein 50 mm shock in rear.
I believe it's valved 260/90. Don't recall spring rates.

The last Mazdaspeed3 I weighed was 588 on each rear wheel. This should be similar to a Fukus (Mazdaspeed3 front is MUCH heavier, but rear should be on par). So it looks like we're in the right ballpark with the XR stuff.

Hey Andrew, what are the DMS spring rates for the Focus? Is the rear a coil-over, or is it in the stock perch?

That 175 on the rear of the XR looks like something more in the 200 neighborhood when it gets to the wheel. You've got a >1 motion ratio back there.
