I think the Thermalarc 185 hits a very good value point - it's 220v, AC/DC, powerful enough for most projects, nice inverter package, and comes with torch/reg/pedal/etc for about $2100 (ebay or your local welding store). I use a Syncrowave 250 at the shop, but got a Thermalarc a few years ago for the trailer and it has been very good. Thermalarc doesn't have the same brand cachet as Miller/Lincoln, but is a solid established brand and way better than the 'ebay crap'. The other good option is to buy a used TIG. My Syncrowave was $2500 on Cragslist with a water cooler.
