DNF Causes

Lets compile a list of DNF's....

What has made you DNF? Failures? Broken Parts? Out of Gas? Bad Chinese food?

You're joking, right? I'm gonna need my own thread...

I'll have to get back to you on that. Gotta do some research. 20 years of DNFs takes some time to remember...

Fun topic, though.

My only DNF in rally sprint was caused by :

- blizzak on gravel (was supposed to snow)
- no tubes (was scared of blowing out with the heat)
- driver (me) saw spectators, forgot about the blizzak, the lack of snow and tubes, put the car sideway... really sideway...
- both rear tires came off the rims at the same time.

I finished the staged (scared the shit of my gf who was co-driving), open the trunk, 1 spare, no jack.... end of day.

I'm still mad at myself because I did it in the 3rd stage and my father was spectating in the 4th. That's the only time he was able to come see me race before he died, so he never actually saw me racing sad smiley

I'm with Mr.Clark, so many DNFs, so little memory..

I finished my first 2 events , Olympus 83 and a Canadian event.

Not in order chronoligically

Crash, electrical short, lost all lites at nite, bent suspension.
Roll over. 30 mph
Rod bearing.
Withdrew, motor low on power.
Alternator failure.
Roll over. Crash into big tree. 50 ish
Roll over, down gully.
Crash. 100 mph spin through trees and big culvert. Bent suspension, brake rotor.
No brakes.
Lost motor, water in fuel.
Withdrew, sick co-driver.
Broken shock mount.
Jet cover fell off of DeLorto.
Motor fell out ( after big yump, blown tire, bent suspension).

Prolly a couple more I can't remember right now.

100AW 2004 - First rally, 3.2 miles in, car in front crashed out and was blocking stage in middle of blind corner. Head on into a tree avoiding them. Once stage was clear was able to drive out, but radiator fan was damaged and car was overheating on transit to next stages.

Oregon Trail 2006 Day 3 - Codriving, driver got slightly off line and woosh we went towards one of those epic ravines in Oregon. Then boom, head on into a tree and we stop, precariously balancing above the ravine. When standing on the ground outside my door I could barely look in the window. It was close and we (and especially the car owner) were really lucky we didn't go over the edge.

This is a good thread for newbies to watch.

DNF's
Doo Wops 2004, as co-driver, broken oil line
Oregon Trail 2004, as co-driver, tree impact/sweep followed by tree impact/sweep and Time Barred
Olympus 2008, as co-driver, Diff explosion

Very near DNF's:
Mt Hood 2007, as driver, Alternator
Oregon Trail 2005, as driver, carb issues

MFR 06 Smashed windsheild (finished day 1, no spares anywhere around so DNS'd day2)
Rally Tennessee 06, motor failure (rod brg)

BRS 07 Second stage motor failure (rod brg)

Some almost DNF's: Wild West 03: Roll over into deep ditch. Sweep pulled us ot and we finished. Pacific Forrest rally 04: Lost turbo hose and didn't have proper replacement hose clamps. Sandblast 08: Lost altenator/waterpump belt on last (night stage). Most recently the car DNF'd at Rallye de Paris due to fuel pump failure.

Seems a good idea to have two batteries, two fuel pumps wired in.

Massive, and I mean massive, amount of mud in the fuel tank. Clogged fuel filters within 7 miles.

You guys crack me up. You're only listing 3 or 4 DNF's. Apparently you haven't been doing this long enough. Wait until you see my list...
