You ever measured your track width Timm? Starlet is like 50 or so stock. LSD options on that diff?

We have some Escort flares laying around from Demon Tweeks. Will see how they'd fit...

Hey Tim T, you doing any cool 4 link stuff, like brackets or the shit for the shell mods, etc. to go with your towers?

stock rear width? or the supra rear?

The supra has OEM LSD clutch option, and you can get the KAAZ for the mark 2 supras, it fits. Also, 7.5 ring and pinions so far seem to be all the same... even the 4 runner front diff ones... my cousin (a big 4x4 guy) and I were trying to find out if the "Drive side" was different on the two (as the front diff rotates backwards in the runner) but they seem to be the same.

Grant I also remember hearing that the RX-7 GSL SE rear end is the right width for the starlet. and has lsd too. Prolly not as many options for R&P and diffs, etc, but i hear its a near bolt in and has the right size wheel studs.

Look for the 1st gen Celica Supra from 1989 - 1991. If you don't mind having drum brakes and re-drilling from a 5 lug to a 4 lug bolt circle, the 70's - 90's Toyota 2WD Trucks/Hi-Lux came with 7.5" diffs. Look for the letter "F" under the axle code. The 70's to early 80's Hi-Lux have the narrower diff. The Toyota Van (the boxy one) also came out with a 7.5" diff, though some came with a weird sized 7.1", so you have to note the axle code.

Do tell John! What parts? I'd figure you need the brackets to weld onto the rear axle, the spacers for the rod ends, and the metal that is actually welded onto the body. None of this stuff is difficult to make, but some of us would rather spend time welding than making. smiling smiley

Track width for MkII Celica - 56.7"
Track width for a Starlet - 50.2"

Putting into a AE86, lots of part numbers and specs...
http://www.aeu86.org/index/axle-amp-differential-celica-supra-(ma45-46-47)-diff-swap-amp-info_/cat/9/topic=5762/post=92692

14 mm difference in width between AE86 and Mk2 Supra.

Arches and different offset wheels a definite necessity.

Just use Currie Enterprises to change the axle width. Chop of the tube ends and move them in then send the axle shafts to be shortened.

I have a 2wd Toyota pickup rear axle for my Manta racecar, it's the 200 mm version (7.8", but it's called an 8" by most folks). It measures 56" from face to face, with brake rotors fitted. The core is from a 1986 pickup, which I can assure you is the same as the 7.5" version in the same year pickup. I have a 1987 Toyota truck and swapped the 7.5" for an 8" years ago, same difference!

I welded the 5 x 4.5" bolt pattern up and had them redrilled to my 4 x 100 pattern I needed.

BTW, I used to mess around with early 70's Corolla's, and the 6.38" and even the bigger 6.7" rear axles were pretty damn weak. I always kept a spare center chuck around for when I would invariably spit out a spider gear or two...

Interior and sound deadening is out and Sparco seat is in. Rusted through spare tire well, driver's floor, and a few little spots here and there.

Grant,

heres the brackets I welded on. I made them out of 1x4 rectangular tube with a .120 wall.

For the shock mount I just took a thick walled tube, tig welded another tube to the outside (the length of the machined in sticking out the back) to it, and then put it on a lathe and cleaned it up. Shock mounts to that with a bolt that runs all the way through. Did it this way because it eliminates having to make two giant ears to stick out to bolt the shock too. Cleaner, also.

EDIT: and before anyone asks, no, those arent the final bolts to be used, haha, they just work.

Cool setup Timm. The shock mount scares me a bit. Not sure that will hold. If nothing else I'd at least gusset it upward and downward if that makes sense.

I'm planning on making some little triangle gussets for it, but it also runs all the way through. You can see the little stub in the dark, haha.
