So are V bands a better way to go then a spring held slip fit? (I'm thinking from the header to the main exhaust with cat and then to the muffler)
OH, also, whats up with cats at the rear of the exhaust....? EDIT: *facepalm* DOH Welcome to the cult of JVL drink the koolaid or be banned. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/13/2009 02:05PM by Dazed_Driver. |

We use these. Well, that's where I got all of mine. I think they may be ordering them here now as their mandrel bends are pretty affordable too. http://www.mandrel-bends.com/catalog/flanges-v-bands-36/v-band-assemblies-103/ Dave Kern's TR30R WRC turbo is V-band for everything. To the manifold, downpipe, inlet, outlet, etc. I have a T3 v-band adapter, but haven't actually used it since it'd require the center mount header to move the turbo away from firewall to fit it and I have a 3" downpipe I'm perfectly happy with. Myself, I've used a quick release V-band clamp back there to hold the cat on Dave Hintz's car. Like the good stainless T-bolt clamp shown above but instead of a bolt it uses an over center quick release lever. For added insurance that an errant rock didn't knock the lever open (it would be pretty hard to do, they are tight) I safety wired the lever. In the truck was a spare cat all set up for a quick swap if needed. |

Maybe one or two v bands, but slip fit for anything that doesnt need to be welded. Welcome to the cult of JVL drink the koolaid or be banned. |

What is this spring slip fit nonsense ya'll talking bout? I haven't ever seen it.
I just rerouted the money away from my carbon fiber budget to afford my single and superbly convenient V-band. Funny thing is I bought two or three extras to use to have a test pipe so I could run without a cat for the hill climbs, but then in typical pre-rally time crunch just welded the cat in without them. Oh and one for the downpipe. So I have three of the clamps and 7 of the weld on flanges extra laying in the basement. Someday I'm sure I'll use them or trade them with a friend for something of use. Kind of like all the AN-3 brake hardware I gave away for Bis's new STI a few weeks ago. Grant Hughes |

hey hey, my carbon came into my possession for free otherwise it'd be aluminum....you know how it is, all the fun stuff you get at the start of the project gets the money, then everything near the end gets the cheap and easy so you can actually afford to run an event.
I was thinking something like this for the joints: -Tom DemonRallyTeam | Fine Tuning | CTS Turbo & RP Turbos | RalleyTuned | JRM | Meister Autowerks Spitfire EFI | Product Apparel | JVAB Imports | NLS | AP Tuning | USRT Add us on Facebook | Next Event: 2013 Olympus Rally June 22-23 Olympia, WA |
