Fluid lines
June 13, 2009 11:40PM
While I was at JVLs today looking at everyones projects the subject of interior fuel lines came up. I mentioned there was a new RA bulletin out but could not remember what it covered (old people). So it says that oil and coolant lines cannot be in the cockpit. Fuel lines are ok as before, steel or steel braid. Basically I think someone was looking to put a radiator inside the passenger compartment...Alan pobably has the real story.

I know one of the Audi S2s that used to run around here had the radiator in the back because there was difficulties with fitting one big enough up front with the 20V turbo or something. It didn't work well apparently...
Also mid-mount or rear mount engines may want to put a radiator up front?

ACP's band of junior birdsmen here at the University of Windsor have been playing with a radiator mounted roughly where the rear seatback bulkhead is located on their EXO X development car. Apparently it's a popular mod in European Rallycross cars.

I can think of very few things less fun than a lap full of hot coolant...

I can kind of understand... oil and coolant flow lots of hot stuff very fast.

The quantity of brake fluid is severely less then that of coolant and oil, and the fuel isnt hot, until ignited.

Go stick a fabric gloved hand in boiling water or oil. You'll understand the idea behind it.

Not talking about brake fluid. Engine coolant and oil lines. Huge diference in volume of potential scalding liquids, not to mention flamable.

Oh great sage...everything is inflammable under certain conditions...especially without the presence of ignition.

You also need an oxygen source. So if you were rallying in a vacuum would be a lot less flammable.

I don't get why people are bent out of shape about this rule. How many rally cars does this really affect? Maybe the super awesome benching racing one that no one has built?
