RWD is for guys who don't like going fast....O'Sullivan, Whimpey, Cody Crane pretty much blew away all the RWD mega power, mega bucks cars this weekend. Really too bad the B Boys weren't there to put another FWD at the top of the pack.

Utecht was putting in some good times, and a couple stage wins, despite his trouble early on.

Yes he was a man on a mission, but the obvious trend was FWD for the win. I can't drive FWD worth a crap but I believe Alan Carter once explained the FWD put the drive wheels where the traction is at and RWD put the drive wheels in the loose stuff..or something to that effect. So a 400+ hp Mustang was barely beating a 100ish CRX once in a while??

It ought to be apparent that:
A: You don't need to spend mega bucks to rally and have fun..and go fast
B: A talented driver will shine in any class
C: If you're not a talented driver AWD won't help you, the talented AWD guys will still beat you, you just spent more to get beat.
D: MaxAttack! is an incredible program made even better by the spirited driving from great 2WD competitors. Eric Burmeister and Jake Himes belong in a motorsports hall of fame.

I don't think the RWD cars that weren't doing as well are very good indications of the potential of a RWD car. Adam Crane was doing pretty well in his RWD car. I have no doubt that my Merkur could have killed it on those stages. The RWD cars that were there are a different type of hammer, and when given the right nail they kill it, otherwise not so much.
Also Lauchlin and Josh were one and two, with no threats from any 2WD car from the first stage onward.

Give us a different skid plate and another shot at SS1 and we would've been there...with the wimpeys at least.

Lets settle this fwd, rwd matter. Put L O'S. in RWD for round two. Think block would rent his escort?

Tom and Don...NO MORE EXCUSES! Of all that missed idaho, in my mind your return to the roads was the thing missed the greatest. And that's coming from a volvo boy.

It has been nothing but pain this entire weekend, a lot of work was put in on that car by a lot of different people to make this event....I am supremely disappointing I wasn't able to make it out and at least start learning the new car.

Gene, do the math, man. smiling smiley

Utecht:
SS3: 5th overall, 2nd MaxAttack!
SS4: 4th overall, 2nd MaxAttack!
SS6: 1st overall, 1st MaxAttack!
SS7: 1st overall, 1st MaxAttack!
SS8: 1st overall, 1st MaxAttack!

Unfortunately, Mustangs have limited steering lock, and it's easy to "screw the pooch" as Mark put it. Hurst and Butts often spun with 'stangs running out of opposite lock, too.

But when the back end doesn't pass the front, it kills...and I bet it puts a smile on your face like few cars can.

I don't think Volvos have so short of steering lock.

Mine sure has some wicked angle possible on the front tires.
I havnt spun mine yet, but I did take out the subframe and control arms on a giant rock last week. Skid plate is getting bumped up the priority list.

It's probably more of the maximum angle the wheels turn. If you exceed the "hang out" angle then you spin.

Make no mistake I'm a RWD guy and I said Utecht would be on a mission Saturday, he didn't disappoint. He was very frustrated with his start on Friday. We figured he would dominate Saturday as those stages were "made" for his car. That thang has to be a handful to drive. Still Cody has humpin along pretty good with no Vtec and low power. Pretty much polar opposites.

Yeah well the thing I think this does show is brute HP isn't always THE solution, that even low power is "enough" if it's helped out with short gearing and if the driver OPENS THE GAWDDAM THROTTLE a bit more full gas than the others are opening theirs full gas.

Quickener helps ratio. Mustangs lack Angle.

yeah, but he has throttle steering to make that up...i think he can advertise something like the most torque in North American rallying, right?
