No, its not a myth, its true and tested with real backup data. Stainless braided -3 hoses expand at about 800psi if I'm not mistaken and -4 about half of that. Using them in a 12-18" length from the chassis to the caliper’s is perfect as the expansion volume is almost 0. But on a system with 20 times that, the difference is going to be noticeable. This is not an uncommon mistake for even very well regarded race teams, but then the driver’s come back always complaining to the crew chiefs that the pedal feels mushy... then the crew chief's run around thinking the pads are compressible or the calipers flex on the upright mounts etc etc etc... then to just come to terms that the driver is an idiot and not paying attention to him anymore!!!

On a rally app, where you don’t need so much line pressure due to lack or grip you wont notice it, so its okay in terms of performance but its still waste of money.

Is running solid lines that difficult? Seems like it should be fairly simple. Use some stiff wire to act as a template to define the bends and then bend the tube to match the wire.

I've never done it myself so who knows... smiling smiley

btw any advice on tools? Summit has an $8 dollar bender and some $40 flare tools.

No. It's not hard at all. You say that Paul and you say there's data on it, but have you ever actually driven a car with all soft lines? Trust me, there is zero effect in my car. Nate Conley's WRX has braided lines throughout as well.

You have to remember, you're talking the difference in brake feel from a professional race driver like Michael Schumacher, Stig Blomquist, Petter Solberg, Sebastion Leob...

All these people will feel the difference. Just because you don't, doesn't mean its not there. Have you ever seen a million dollars, in cash, in person? grinning smiley

I can feel the difference in stock vs. braided just replacing the small section from hard line to the caliper.
I had this sweet Christmas card one year where I put ~$8,000 in bills on my coffee table around a kilo pile of coke (actually flour) and then I sat smiling on the couch behind it. Never got around to making them and sending them out though.

More importantly, think of all the humongous vanlandingham posts when he quotes, responds in quote, same color, and the only differentiating hint is the "alternate" spelling.

That's when you start scrolling through a one page post. It's nuts.
