Also, why do I have 275in/lb front springs? Looking through the ford manuals, the valving I have, 320/110, should be matched with a 34n/mm spring. Thats 195 in/lbs. Oddly enough, while looking through the REST of the ford manuals, I found where you might have gotten the 275 rate... from a car valved EVEN HIGHER. (425/150)
The rear springs should be about 148in/lb according to the rs2000 manual (as my rear valving is 260/90), yet I have the 175in/lb. So why would you mix and match the rates with the valvings? This isnt even taking into account the fact that a corolla is a lighter car then a gpa escort or rs2000 is. Welcome to the cult of JVL drink the koolaid or be banned. |

If you look in the rwd escort prep manual (a very lightweight rwd car) you'll see that they used 100 lb to 195 lb springs on 260/60 valved front struts. So there is a range of springs that can work with a given shock valving.
I would say take it for a drive and give it a try before you start complaining, you may find it works great or needs some tweaking. And I'm pretty sure you can easily pop one of your inserts out and measure the lengths and find a part number. |

Not complaining. Havent driven it. Just wondering what the reasoning is. And that escort prep manual would still be loads off the rates I have... I already checked it. I'm not saying its wrong, I'm just wondering why he choose the rates from the much higher valved setup to match with the lower valved.
Also, I did take the entire unit apart, found the only number, conveniently scribed over. Apparently the best place to put "JVAB WA USA" is over the insert part number. Welcome to the cult of JVL drink the koolaid or be banned. |

(I'm presuming, otherwise why would you need the part number.) Good luck with that, from any supplier. Not really in their best interest is it? Edit: Oh, I see by the original post you are trying to find out the stroke of the shock. Why don't you just measure it yourself? It ain't that hard. Edited 1 time(s). Nope. I just need the stroke. I'm trying to document all the information, something that I never got with the purchase. All I want is the stroke, valving, and spring rates.
The very first post says "What is the stroke?" thats all I need. Welcome to the cult of JVL drink the koolaid or be banned. |

Or maybe just ask JV for that info? |

Well, at this point it would be faster. John and JVAB apparently have a hard time keeping themselves separate. One's thoughts on a person influences the other...
Do to the bump rubber being in there, I wouldnt be able to get it accurately measured, as it sits. However, I'll just pull it all apart (again) and measure, I suppose. I should have done it way back when, but didn't think of it. Basically, I was hoping that he might have enough professionalism to realize that when someone drops almost 2 grand (including a rush deposit RIGHT INTO THEIR BANK ACCOUNT), that he should provide them with at least the travel of the suspension. Guess not. Welcome to the cult of JVL drink the koolaid or be banned. |

I honestly have no idea. I've never measured. Nor do I have a merkur to take measurements from. I could borrow Jermey's though. The rears are probably different, as its a solid axle on mine, and IRS on the merkur. The front is probably pretty close though. I think the merkurs have the same style setup - but im not 100 per cent sure. Welcome to the cult of JVL drink the koolaid or be banned. |

Take the insert and measure with a tape measure the amount it goes in and out. That's the stroke. Probably about 185mm The valving was marked with a tape on sticker, and should be etched in. The springs are marked. Would suggest using your eyes but I guess its easier to write repeated posts than just looking. Would be more helpful but you're just such a whiny bitch and complain so much it just sorta damps the desire to even take the time. > > Feisty Peacock? > > My noodle I doodled was ate by a poodle John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Actually, as I noted in my first post, I have the valving and spring rates. You're very right, they were very obviously marked. Around 185mm does help a lot, though. Thanks. I should have phrased that last sentence different from "blah blah I need the stroke valving spring rate blah blah"

I didnt get any of that information with the shocks, not even any valving numbers or range of adjustment or a dyno plot. You should also be able to pull the insert out of the strut to take the bump rubber off so you can measure without it. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/16/2009 08:37AM by Carl S. |
