Got the driver's side rear shock turret ALL the way done grinning smiley I'll get the left done when I get it scribed. I'm tired and hungry, so I took a break.

Thanks Grant! Doing a little seat mount work as I showed Dad how to use the MIG welder. I'm not sure how he can TIG, but not MIG?... lol, So now we're ready to do some more fitting of the 4 link boxes/finishing the 4 link mounts.

I learned to Tig before Mig. It's cool that your dad is involved and helping out!
Now just make sure to use condoms. Babies kill rally cars in young people!
Also, no student loans! Pay for college and you'll be way ahead of all the people that took out huge loans. Or if you have to, only take loans to pay for tuition. Chose a school where you can live for free.

Any reason you put the rear upper shock mounts with the hole for the top bushing going front to back? I've always seen shocks mounts with the hole for the bushings side to side so that the shock can pivot on the bolt, rather than twist its bushing or bearing. In fact I cant recall ever having seen mount oriented that way.

Whoda thunk it.
What I don't get is why so wide a mount when a couple of D would suffice.
Of course closed off with some 16g

I think on the axle the bolt should be E-W rather than N-S cause the axle describes an arc in normal use and the arc would be accommodated in bearing or bushing rotation
but what the fawk do I Noes

Good question.

The answer:

Well, the 4 links are long enough that the side to side arc is bigger then the front back arc. Thats why.

And hey now, I'm proud of my tank proof rear turrets, haha.

The mount is so wide as to prevent the top from "bumping" up... should the suspension get super compressed multiple time. As you saw (I assume you looked at the link?) It only has the slot big enough, like you said, a D shape would suffice. It's 6x6 sq tubing because thats what I got for free.

More little gusset progress. I made these to help strengthen the Upper A pillar corner

And this is the driver's side 4 link box so far.

I'll get stuff finished when it's done grinning smiley hahaha Then I'll post more pics.

i find it funny how the evo forum kids think that's good fabrication! No offense but it looks like it was hacked together with steel scrap from a shipyard by a one-eyed drunken sailor!

Designing fancy parts in Solidworks doesn’t mean a lot if you make them with angle grinder and stick welder!!

Not to put form over function but good looking welds are “usually” better welds.

A+ for effort though….
