Odd how Ford, according to the books scanned here, survived on two 150 l/hr Bosch pumps back in the 40mm restrictor days so say 390 bhp.
Or odd how everybody today needs such big pumps.

John,

I think it just comes down to these Walbro pumps are NEW, not terribly expensive, and available everywhere. It's pretty damn convenient to buy an aftermarket pump for a 5.0 Mustang or whatever it fits.

How much do the Bosch ones cost new compared to the Walbros? I don't know, just curious. Got a price and/or a part number, my google skills are lacking and I have a fussy 10 month old biting my ankles right now.

I think most are scared of a junkyard $5 fuel pump failing when they've socked hundreds and thousands of dollars into their rally weekend, so they go with the Walbro unit because it's the most common thing out there right now.

It ain't the fact it's new, it's the elevated l/hr everybody chooses that has me puzzled.
It's the same crap if you ever look in at the various Xratty forums with the cone-squish clowns "advising" people to use springs 50-80% stiffer (while using junk street dampers/struts) for driving 35mph in a fucking parking lot
than Ford used on tarmac cars driving from 0-120.

And ever LOOKED at the outlet hole in them thar Wals, bro?

I mean why not get a 255 if it's the same price as a 190.... You are correct though. A 255 pump is good for like a smidge over 500hp. They're like 80 bucks...

You're gonna be cycling more gas through the return line, but who gives a shit. Is there really a legitimate concern of heating the fuel by over pumping it?

Some of the supra boys have three of these pumps in tank running simultaneously because they actually need to.

I just remembered this fuel pump discussion and I stumbled upon this webpage with gobbs of information about every brand of fuel pump and it's flow rate based upon the voltage supplied, so I figured I'd update the thread incase the subject comes up again.

Need to check the rules if using dual pumps in NASA. There are some interesting things in there.
