http://www.mcmaster.com/#98620a080/=45p1y1 but thought I'd ask first for cheaper options. thx. Jon Burke - KI6LSW Blog: http://psgrallywrx.blogspot.com/ Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/21/2009 11:49AM by Jon Burke. |

Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see a thread pitch. The Subaru's don't use coarse threads. Just a thought. I've found an assortment of Fine/Super fine pitches in my shell.
Do you have a brafasco or fastenall store near to you? You will most likely find, however, that buying by the 100 pack will be the cheapest solution. I pay ~$8 for 100 M6, $10 for 100 M8 and $11 for M10... Its not bad. I've also found that if you just need a few, or a few spares, something like 20% discount at your Subaru dealership gets you bolts for less than a dollar to a couple bucks for the large (wierd) ones. I got all new bolts for the magor suspension components, from the dealer for ~$65... Like maybe 40 bolts and 15 nuts |

First think.
Then head to a good wrecking yard. Grab all the bolts and their nuts and washers on your list. Get extras. Cost you FIVE DOLLA! Make you holla! All Japonaise cars just make up threads willy nilly past 8mm so go Gen, You Whine. You are actually contemplating buying bolts???
As John said. Go to a wrecking yard, find any Subaru you can, they all use the same bolts. Pull out the nice ones. Start in the interior because they won't be all rusted. other option, find the local Subaru swap guy. he's gonna have literally buckets full of bolts from cars they have stripped etc. buy the guy a case of beer and you have a big bucket of bolts. Like maybe > 40 bolts and 15 nuts hmmm, K...I'll search on brafasco or fastenall near me. thread pitch...I called and asked them about that, I guess the use the 'standard' metric threads, which look something like this: Metric Thread Size M3 M4 M5 M6 M7 M8 M10 M12 M14 M16 M20 M24 M30 Metric Thread Pitch .5 mm .7 mm .8 mm 1 mm 1.25 mm 1.5 mm 1.75 mm 2 mm 2.5 mm 3 mm 3.5 mm http://www.mcmaster.com/#cap-screws/=45p14r (these columns are supposed to be next to each other...so M3 lines up with .5mm, M4 lines up with .7mm, etc). So I need to double check what my usual assortment of threads are on certain Suby bolts, but at first glance, they look right. JVL....yeah, for some of the big suspension/sub frame bolts, a junkyard is perfect. but I'm also looking for random stuff, like all my UHMW plates are bolted on (and in 2 rallies I've lost 3-4 bolts already, so I just need a good supply), wheel well liners, etc, etc...I just need an assortment of standard metric hardware. Yeah, yeah, but just remember after 8mm the inscrutable little bastid start making up stuff ----compared with normal DIN (the rest of the world) metric.
Segregate your stuff. John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Pacific Standard Time is 3 hours behind Eastern Standard Time. |

I just bought some boxes of stuff from Mcmaster in varying lengths.
Mostly M10X1.5, M8X1.25 and M6 by something. Two lengths of the M8. Bunch of M6 stainless steel button heads and M6 weld nut things for attaching underbody. Also some M8X1.25 stainless steel cap head bolts. Also bought some M8 weld in stuff. Grant Hughes |

Brafasco is a Canadian Company...good luck. Just find nut/bolt supply places, but almost no one will stock what you actually want.
Every Subaru bolt is thread pitch 1.25. If you are searching for metric hardware for a subaru, you want JIC standard bolts with reduced fastener head size. If you buy a DIN set. m6 bolts will have a 10mm head, M8's a 13mm, and other stupidness. You will be VERY frustrated. The junkyard goes for smaller stuff as well. The inside of cars is filled with nice and new 6mm bolts and nuts. Lots of 8mm's to! Chris Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/21/2009 01:17PM by Do It Sidewayz. |

(and for this to work, Chris, you have to respond with a vehement "No, you're stupid" and we do that a couple of times, OK? ONLY then will we maybe get into the DIN 13/17/19 for 8/10/12 bolt size, then talk about reduced hex on Euro shit being now 8 hex for 6mm, 10 hex for 8, 15 hex for 10 and then my fucking GM Van is 16 hex for some 10 and 18 hex for 12,,,) > > > > Edited 1 times. At my local hardware store (man I love living in tractor country) I can get most of what I need of the wall in the bulk bins. Coarse thread = 1.5 pitch, fine = 1.25, and extra fine = 1. (pretty sure at least). And they are colour coded. silver, blue, pink = coarse, fine, extra fine.

Find someone at Fastenal that actually knows something about fasteners.
1.25 thread pitch means that there are 1.25 threads per MM. comes back to option #1...go to the local scrap yard with a 10, 12, 14, 17, 19 mm wrenches or....the better option...head to the local Subaru Swap shop..... Chris |

That's the paradox because if that person exists I've never talked to them. They put in a branch within walking distance of my shop 3 years ago and I still never use them. What sucks it that John is a few miles away from one of the best hardware companies on the planet: http://www.olander.com/index.htm Sadly, they only sell to industrial customers so you're stuck with McMaster or the junkyard. |

Hey Chris, what junkyards are around other than Standard?
The two local to me stack the cars flat on the (swamp-like) ground and when I finaly managed to get a car lifted, everything underneath was rusted junk. I haven't been to standard in a while, but at least the last time the cars were staced on top of each other. That made access half decent. |
