Do you have both edges of the angle iron flush with the rocker?

I needed to use 2" angle iron to do that on the Subaru. That's the same weight as the 1"square tubing (before cutting out the strip).

Anything smaller than 2" meant that the angle was sitting on the pinch seam.

No, the vertical part is welded to the seam (on the inner side) and the horozontal part faces to the outside.
