Winter rebuild/reprep of XR4ti
November 05, 2009 10:30AM
So all set up at the new No Coast Laboratories for the winter rebuild/reprep.
Plans:
Stip to shell
Strip undercoating
Seam weld and reinforce front strut tops
Weld in weld nuts for underbody protection
Remove spare wheel well
Paint entire shell
Clean up wiring harness and remove all unnecessary components. Replace any bad wiring.
Install fuel cell and new fuel lines/pumps.
Install Supra differential in reinforced stock rear beam
Reassemble.
New things going in:
Ported lower intake manifold
Tubular exhaust manifold
Megasquirt stand alone ECU

Would also like to figure out some kind of vacuum distribution system instead of just having a bunch of random vaccuum lines running all over the place.

Oh yeah, we're also going to reskin the floors of the Starlet and install a cage and paint it as well while we're at it.

Have a 15 gallon Fuel Safe cell for the car, but need to figure out pumps to use and all the wiring and switches scare me just a little bit. Want to build a better looking center console/dash support to hold switches, gauges, fuses, and relays. It's going to be a busy winter. Will post pics starting on Saturday. Camera battery was dead last night or would have taken some pics to make everyone jealous. Oh yeah, and I have to finish this reprep by the end of March at the latest.
William! I need that Supra diff carrier! I can weld anything and everything else, but that piece will save alot of time and effort!

Grant,

I thought that you were going to declare bankruptcy? Did you hit the lotto? I still have a job and I am having to make all sorts of compromises to get my Saab put together.

Still am declaring.
It is my only vehicle and in Colorado you can keep a vehicle. I have three roommates in order to minimize my housing expenses at the moment (a situation I despise but deal with in order to have more money for fun.) I eat a whole lot of peanut butter sandwiches and I ride my bike or take the bus everywhere I go. Which is also fun, especially on days like last Wed/Thurs where we got like 16" of snow. Most of what I am doing over the winter is labor intensive, not pocket intensive. I've been surviving on a hundred or less per week for all my expenses. I also only eat once per day, usually lunch and usually just two PBJ sandwiches.

Why remove the fuel pump and fuel filter mounting area and stoage are for junk-n-stuff you only need if your well and truly fawked up which on the road car version was where the doughnut tire went but is an ideal sump and an easy to clean place in a rally car?

3.25 line run on sentance, pretty good.

Do you smash your thumb with a hammer for fun too or do you just come here to satisfy your masochistic tendencies?

Lessee, black wheel, black between the spokes, black tire on it, whole shebang in a black shadowy wheel arch. Yeah NOTHING looks real good.

Grant you're a freak! I eat 10 times a day. At any rate you're not getting out of the rebuild as you describe it for less than a couple of G's. Good luck, and keep us posted with pix and stuff. Hopefully we'll compete against eachother at OT in a year or so!

no, I just think black wheels and tires looks good on some cars. If everyone stopped blowing what I say way out of proportion, we wouldn't have these problems.

But yeah, it was me having fun. Oh noes 1111
