LN and death ray to prep shell
November 25, 2009 08:35AM
So my car as well as Dave Kern's new BMW are both in tear down phase. Dave was planning on acid dipping, I was planning on LN and using the death ray.
Anyone have any testimonial to both methods and benefits/disadvantages. Would really like to hear from people that have used it. Do you have to go back to seams with wire wheel or is it pretty much ready to go?

Death Ray Testimonial;

Its really fun and works great. Probably more fun in the summer. Warnings! I did crack some sheet metal in test areas; so overcooling + slag hammer is dangerous. Plus even through a pair of heavy welding gloves, I soaked a finger and got a TINY dot of frostbite on the tip of my pointer: INSANELY painful for over a month, so look out! Make friends with the Air Gas person and they might cut you a deal, mine cut the price in half because they thought it was a cool project. Get it? cool?

Grant you dun't HAVE to take every last bit of wiring and shit out since you direct the liquide where you want it, so like big hunks of loom can be lifted aside---if one is not purposely making work for themselves by doing a 100% rewire.

I think the Oafish-al gun is still out in Virginia so lets get it in your hands cause Robert Rally Mech and I are gearing up to do maybe 3-4 shells this winter and will need it back here one day.

I do believe it is in Texas or somewhere of the sorts as I shipped it off to someone on here this summer...

Hey, I may drop tools, and lumber around like an ape, and get stuck in tight spaces, but do you need to call me oafish?

I would stay away from acid dipping, it thins the metal, and it is really hard to get all the acid out of all the nooks and crannies, so it will continue to eat the metal in those areas.

Already located the gun and it's supposedly on it's way to me already.
I'll send it your way when you're ready for it or when I'm done with it, whichever comes first.
My shell is at the moment just a roller with everything removed. A few bolts and it'll be just the shell. Left it as a roller so I could take it outside and spray the fuck out of it with a pressure washer.
