What IS the cost of enough LN2 to do one shell? Dipping here is $1450. Truth is I'd really like to do the deathray just for the hours of fun but getting the shell out of my limited shop space for a week would be good too. I hear John's using the gun next but doesn't really matter since I've got to make a rotisserie first anyhow.
Speaking of which; if I use two engine stands I'm assuming they only need be as tall as half the width of the car in order to rotate. Correct? Anyone local to me have a rotisserie for rent instead???

Okay, so they said, $450 per dewar plus a $5000 deposit without an account.
Dave called, said, okay, what do I need to get a business account with you. Talked straight to manager, Mark went over with death ray to sort out a hose (hence the picture), and they were filling our dewars when Mark went back down there to pick up the hose they are letting us borrow. I don't know exactly as I'm not paying for it, but Dave said high $200s plus $3 per day. Josh Wimpey said it'll probably be about 4 hours per shell based on when he did his Golf. I'm doing both shells and seam welding both shells in exchange for Dave buying all the LN. Fair trade in my mind, especially considering I couldn't afford to buy the LN at the moment, but have weekends free and Dave is going to be a great competitor for me!

I bought some engine stands from the ol princess auto when they were on sale for making a rotis. I've stolen some wheels from them tho to use on my welding cart winking smiley

The height needs to be a little more than half the width of the car as the sides are relatively straight. This is the sort of thing that CAD can help with in a jiff.

Where did you get the dipping quote? I might be going that way with one or more projects. They have rust in places that you can't get at.

Lend me your 2 stands and I'll tell you smiling smiley (We have 2 stands in the shop but they have engines on them)

Estimated price to strip 1995 Subaru shell only is $1,450 plus taxes.

Here are few answers to questions you may have:

- no need for an appointment - you can drop off car/parts at our Brampton (near Toronto) plant weekdays between 7:00 am and 8:00 pm

- we need to have the car/parts for about a week - the process takes about 1-1/2 days but we schedule around industrial work

- our process includes application of a rust inhibitor - this is water soluble and will give the car/parts temporary protection (2-3 weeks) until painted

- we do not prime or paint in our facility - you should paint your parts as soon as possible (usually a week or two is fine)

- we take Interac, VISA and MC

Price estimates are valid for 45 days.

Well, they were bought for making a rotis.. so I wouldn't mind. but the real bit is turning it into one.. and I'd like em back.. so you're probably best off with buying some to turn into one for yourself (this won't be the only time you need em right?)

I think I will end up doing this for a shell or two at some point.. it's the best way to nuke the rust that's there.

Re: LN and death ray to prep shell

Okay, so we've learned quite a few things. First, and John said this above, be ready to use the N2 as soon as it gets here. We had a faulty safety valve and came in to one of the tanks empty after barely 12 hours of sitting in below freezing temps. Secondly, make sure the hose is quality. The hose that came with the death ray to me has probably been used for like 15-20 cars. Looked over and realized the it was leaking probably twice as much as we were spraying. Thus we came close to finishing one car with two $275 180L + $3/day dewars. It's the BMW so my car won't be being done until next month.
Morning started about 10 am. Had the car on the rotisserie and started around 12:30-1:00. Ran out of N2 around 10 pm. Have a little bit of seams left and there was some inefficiency going on, as well as the BMW having a ton of seams and undercoating. But as a whole, I was really pleased with using it. Some video was shot, we'll see when I get to putting it together.
One cool thing, when you finish clearing one area and decide to take a smoke or beer break, spit on the area you just finished. The immediately touch it with your well gloved finger. It's already frozen. You can also freeze that beer you spilled in the back seat. We also didn't drink at all until after 7 pm.
