Skid plate install

Posted these on the Merkur forum, figured I would post them here.
Front mount is .125 wall 1.5inch square tube, the verticals are welded to a plate, that is welded to the bottom of the frame rails, and the sides of the verticals have weld nuts in them, and are bolted to the JVAB tow hook/ Jack point/ skid plate mount ting, that is thick alloy plate. The plate is bolted to the frame rail in 3 spots. 
the rear skid plate mounts. I made an extension that comes down Vertically from the frame rail, welded a plate to the rail, welded the extension to the plate, capped the open end with a 10x1.5 weld nut on the backside of the plate. That is the black piece (hard to see) The white horizontal part, bolts to the back of the crossmember, and bolts to the vertical. It has a 10x1.5 weld nut in it for the skidplate. 
The skid plate is a Kevlar one that came off of an evo8. it was cracked in the front from a tree impact. I cut out all of the damage, I did not need that part anyway. Trimmed off the vertical side pieces. it is secured with 4 bolts, all 4 are recessed about an inch. It is burly

It is burly You do realize that the vertical side pieces add a whole bunch of torsional rigidity to the skid plate don't you? Particularly if it is unsupported between the front and rear mounts I think you'll be disappointed in its performance if you ever put it to the test. You'll also want to try and seal your cuts with resin - Kevlar is hugely absorbent and the skidplate will destroy itself in no time if it isn't sealed. The mounting points will be vital. (the kevlar will expand and contract with damp/dry and the resin will come apart making the area weak.) (and before anyone writes this off as the ramblings of just a photographer - I have a lot of experience with light weight composites from my r/c glider hobby.)
