You guys seem to be an encyclopedia on engines..
What, in your opinions would be a good, cheap, LIGHT, some how related to Mopar powerplant? Do all Mitsu motors count, or did they have to actually be in a Mopar branded product? Cheers, Andrew Andrew M Onterrible 30ish |

You didn't say whether or not there's a displacement limit, but you can make pretty good power from the DOHC 2.0L mill in the 1GN Neon (also used in other cars: avenger, etc...), also the DOHC 2.4L motor from the PT Cruiser, which is a popular Neon swap.
If you want to go crazy, the 2.4L turbo'd lump from the SRT-4 or PTGT is available. james phillips Volvo 242 GT (being built...) Scooby killing 04 Dodge Neon SRT Rallycross monster Lincoln, NE |

Thanks, and good point ![]() I care most about minimizing weight (it will be in the trunk) and cost ![]() Cheers, Andrew Andrew M Onterrible 30ish |

Strangely enough, I'm looking for the same thing. A modern Chrysler derived motor that is light and larger/more reliable/cheaper than my 998...
Although, I was leaning towards Peugeot as Chrysler Europe sold off it's stuff to them in the late 70's. Maybe a stretch... |

Now you got me curious
![]() This http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tritec_engine might be what you are looking for. The 1.6L was used in export PT Cruisers and Neons and looks to be an all aluminum combo. james phillips Volvo 242 GT (being built...) Scooby killing 04 Dodge Neon SRT Rallycross monster Lincoln, NE |

Maybe a stretch... What will work for you will work for me. I'm not putting it in an IMP tho.. but same diff. So farthe best bets looks like a GEMA (http://www.allpar.com/mopar/world-engine.html) or the Bini motor that JamesP mentioned. The biggest problem I see with the GEMA motors is that it's all teh same block from 1.8 - 2.4 just different stroke and thicker sleeves (weight).. Not sure if you want 2.4l in the back of your imp.. or do you? Andrew M Onterrible 30ish |
Not finding too much good being said about the Bini motor.. not sure how much of that is because it's a chrysler design and not a BMW design..
Also not finding much information.. I'm pretty sure one source was talking about it being a cast iron block Andrew M Onterrible 30ish |

Chrysler used the Peugeot/Simca 1.6 liter in Omnis and Horizons in the '80s. Ironically enough, at the end of the run the models that used that motor were called the Omni America and Horizon America. Don't know is that engine is iron or aluminum block or light or worth a crap or anything but might be something to look into.

Opening the MINI lineup are the MINI One and MINI Cooper, both powered by the four-cylinder, 1.6-L Pentagon gasoline engine that was developed jointly by BMW and DaimlerChrysler and is built in South America. For the MINI One, it develops 66 kW (89 hp), and for the Cooper, 85 kW (114 hp). A supercharged version for the MINI Cooper S will be available for MY2002 producing 122 kW (164 hp). The transversely mounted 16-valve engine driving the front wheels meets EU4 emissions legislation but does so without the necessity of secondary air injection or exhaust recirculation. The engine block is cast iron, but the cylinder head is aluminum. The MINI is an international car designed to be sold into many markets, and its engine's anti-knock capability will allow it to run on lead-free gasoline with a RON span of 91 to 98. The engine features an electronic throttle, and a Siemens EMS 2000 electronic powertrain controller manages the engine and continuously variable transmission (CVT),

Pretty interesting motor.. Direct injection, aluminum 2 piece block, a bunch of other gadgets.. Of course, can't find any weights for it. Andrew M Onterrible 30ish |
